More active runways?

Postby darkhorse » Sun Apr 13, 2003 10:22 pm

I've been wondering if there is a download to allow more active runways to help with the backlog of AI traffic held up because other AI planes wont stop landing?  It almost became a problem the other day.  I was just sitting by the taxiway and watching AI take off and land, but the planes didn't seem to let up on approaches.  I had about 5 or 6 planes lined up for take off, but not getting clearence.  Even with a large time gap between two of the landers.  I had been watching for quite a while and had to quit for other reasons, so I didn't get to find out if the other plane would take off or not.

I remember going through this at busy airports, where there is a long line of planes wanting to take off.  But at the airport I watched, it wasn't that busy with ground traffic, and I saw about 10 planes come in with only one taking off.  Plus it just add some realism.

There certainly is.

First of all, d/load AFCAD. It's a utility for (amongst other things) adding gates and runways to airports which A.I. aircraft can use.

Then search the file library. You'll find dozens of AFCAD files pre-done for you. Just decide which airports you want them for and go get them.

Hi Choclo and welcome to the forum. :)

Yes you can have as many runways active as there are present.
You need an AFCAD file that uses overlays.

These basically split the airport into different airports for each runway with associated gates, as far as ATC is concerned.

So if you have somewhere like O'Hare airport in Chicago, you'd search for an AFCAD file where the author has provided as many overlays as you want active runways. Makes for a busy airport, but takes a toll on your frame rates obviously.

I'm not sure if it's possible to have more than one runway active without an overlay, but that's certainly one way of doing it it.

For starters before getting involved in AFCAD overlays which can open up a can of worms for the less experienced, you may just want to begin with airfields that have say 2 parallel rwys (eg JFK, LAX, LHR etc etc) and use AFCAD to open one for landings only and the other for takeoffs only. Very simple and effective - and no effect on fr.
