Hi guys ---
is there any chance in FS2002 to change ATIS range.
If I am flying with FMC in my airbus I would like to know the weather and ILS conditions for my arrival airport.
I can choose atis first like 20nm ahaed of the destination airport.
Can I view ATIS on my aiport I am going to allready before take off or can I change the ATIS range?

If I cannot, what are the tips to get the ATIS on my dest. airport.?

I think the ATIS radio range is set in the scenery itself, at least, wehen you create an ILS beaconf for example, you can set the range.

Perhaps on of the other guys will be able to help more, my scenery knowledge is very limited!

Interesting...!
I have just fired up FS 2002, sat on the runway at San Francisco, ATIS frequency 135.45.
Dialled up Los Angeles, some 400 miles away, ATIS frequency 119.15.
All I get is static on the radio!
So it seems as tho', probably in real life, that there is a limit to the radio range, what it is I don't know, maybe depends on your altitude...?

P.S.  sat on the runway, there are too many mountains between 'Frisco and L.A.... ...!
Maybe higher would help... ...!

Here's the way I do it. Initially enter your airport of origin in Location then go to WEATHER and click on to download Global weather. This will change to Local weather when it's finished loading.
You should know where you are flying to as a final destination. Using the weather map you can locate the nearest recording station to where you wish to land(most times the airport itself). Clouds,wind and other info is available clicking on Advanced Weather. This will tell you the conditions you will be landing in.
Using this information allows you to plan your flight with the correct approach selected before you even get off the ground.
You can't extend the range of ATIS and you can't continuosly download weather.

As Fozzer correctly said, ATIS is hooked up to the radio frequency of the airport. If you're out of range for the radio, you can't just tune in and receive it.

Excellent solution from Packercolinl if I may say so. Just to qualify one thing, if you have an add-on package like Activesky, you can update the (real) weather from the internet as you fly. Consequently, if it's a long flight, you may get different weather than you expected.

Most of my flights are VFR and designed on a Ihr flight duration so using the method described generally doesn't give you a huge weather change if at all at your next download.
