Sorry folks. Original thread lost due to a system fault.

Main reason for my post was to request any pics, quality immaterial, which would help me with details/features for my new scenery which is coming on well (but slowly).

Especially need stuff that might help with buildings etc as most of the photogs have concentrated on aircraft with bits of buildings appearing in corners of shots etc.

I've trawled the net for hours and hours and I reckon I've got most of what's currently available, but as you can see from Derek Chung's pic below, which is the best I've found of the new f/station, it only has 3/4 of the building in it!. I'me having to use eg Daryl's aerial stuff, zoom in like crazy and assume details I can't really see.

I'm trying as far as I can (with my still fairly limited skill) to create a bit of a historical record of Kai Tak with a 'being there' feel as it's fast disappearing (see my other current thread). The features I intend to include are as follows

Full rwy with markings and lights (done)
Chequerboard (done)
IGS on rwy 13 (done)
ILS on rwy 31 and all navs (done)
Main terminal and car park (to do)
Cargo terminal and car park (part done)
HAECO/Cathay complex (done - some changes in hand)
Cathay Pacific Catering Service (to do)
Interline Bagage Facility (done)
Drain with water (done)
Water between taxiways (done)
Tall flats around perimeter (part done)
Round building with colours behind Cargo (to do)
Fire stations (done)
Government Flying Service (to do)
Hong Kong Aviation Club (to do)
Water traffic (to do)
Kowloon ferry terminal (to do - pics needed)
Airport furniture/equipment (much collected - some colours need changing)
Suitable parked statics (done)
Building ads on 13 approach (to do)
Stadium on 13 approach (to do)
Elevated road (don't know how yet)

Any more ideas - any vital items I've missed??

Would also like to know proper taxiway designations for AFCAD and have any details on correct signs/positions

I showed what I'd done with the fire stations to give an idea of how things will look (OK Daryl - fire engines wrong colour and none outside old f/s!!)

First the old one opposite the hold for 13

Then the new, at the north end of the 'pond'

For comparison, these are the real things

From great pics by David Wong and Derek Chung

Sorry for having to repeat all this, but the main point wasn't to show off, but to try to get more pics

Two more pics, you can see the SMALL fire station at the end of RWY 31.

:D
Bl**dy hell - first time I've seen that. I also wondered what was next to the GFS - now I know that as well.

Hey Daryl, I've not been able to locate an airport ground chart with the correct taxiway designations. Ones that were on the net seem to have been removed now.

Can you help with that at all - even if you can just upload a hand-drawn pic onto the forum here.

Roger

PS
Love those Dragonair shots you've just put onto HK Spotters. I'm beginning to wonder, just how much more unpublished stuff does the Kai Tak King still have up his sleeve?
;D

PPS
I've almost now done the round/horseshoe shaped building with the green, red, blue, yellow markings all round it's top behind Cargo. Just finishing the textures. I'll include it in my next update .

PPPS
I've saved a flight (in the Meljet 737) coming into Kai Tak at 10000 ft from the north, flying direct to Tathong Pt for those who know. On intercepting the 270 radial to CH, you turn onto 270 and enter the hold over Cheung Chau VOR. Then you descend in the hold as per the chart to 8000 leaving the VOR still on 270. At point Golf (7 DME from CH and on a heading of 180 from SL - Sha Lo Wan ndb), you commence a descending turn onto a heading of 45 deg, intercepting the 13 IGS at 4500 ft. Then you follow the IGS procedure for a landing on 13.

All the positions and distances are spot on - it's great. I like setting the vis to 2 miles with a 7/8 cloudbase at 2000 ft in thunderstorm, wind 15 kts gusting 25 and occasional turbulence from say 150 deg (quite typical). That way it's challenging but still quite possible to land with practise (even with a 747 or a 777) and if you do miss, you get the chance to do a go around using the chart and navaids for another go.

This airport was such a great, great place aviation-wise and of such historical importance in my view that people will only realise the importance of pics shot by people like Daryl, Colin Parker, Frank Schaefer, Alex Kueh, Andy Hunt, Alan Tsui, David Wong and the many, many other photogs of Kai Tak in the years to come.

Thanks very much.

For the others here are the KA pictures:

As for the chart of Kai Tak, I had it but now I have no idea what I've done with it !

The main taxiway was B1 and the one going off towards the freight was C1.

I know you know of my site, Roger, but are the airport diagrams there of no use to you, then?

If so, I can probably dig out more.

:)

Haha, thanks for that slap round the head Mark! I already had the files, can't remember whether I got em from your or Bertil Gullmar's own site. Teach me to look at things properly in future.

Must say, I've been browsing swiremariners again and I'm more impressed every time. You've done a really good job there.
