FS-2002 Utility

Postby Detlef Kurpanek » Sat Feb 22, 2003 3:44 am

New to the board, so my apologies if this has been posted before.  Quick question for the sages.

Back when I was flying FS2000, I used a utility called JAB-2000 for editing and assigning sound files, panels, etc.  Cool feature on JAB-2000 was if a particular wave file was missing within a sound directory or config file, it would look for a sound within the FS2000 folder.  If it found a wave file with the same name, it would ask if it could be used in place of the missing file.  In this way, you never (or rarely) had an error in the sound configs, and it sure was an easy way to assure every sound directory was complete.

Now JAB-2000 does not work in FS-2002.  Has anyone found anything that will do the same in FS-2002?

I'm afraid I don't , but that sounds like an extremely useful utility.

If you have an e-mail address for the author, it might be worth enquiring if an FS2002/COF compliant version would be possible.

Thanks for the reply.  And that's a good idea.  I will look for the source file and see if there is an address I can followup with.  I'll let you know.

Hi all,

Did get in touch with the original developer or JAB-2000.  Here is his response:

"This the right address. Thanks for your message.
JAB2002 will not be distributed on the Internet (nor elsewhere). Due to the
intense piracy encountered with the previous versions, I decided to stop
making my programs available except to the very little group of my very best
friends that I meet regularly. Sorry.

A+
Jacky"

Too bad.  A loss to us all.

A symptom of the destructive effect of piracy sadly.

Darn, believe or not piracy hurts everybody. I just don't get it! Why do people go around distributing files that are not theirs? What do they get by doing it? Urgh :-/

Hey, try ADDIT Pro for FS2002, it does quite a bit and I think it will do the same for the sound files, I know for sure it will tell you what wavs are missing.

....your point is? ??? I have used it since CFS2, tried it, liked it, registered! Cheap, effective, useful! I get updates via email all the time. I have a version for CFS2 and FS2002, works for me. If you don't like it or can't afford a few bucks, don't register

"JAB2002 will not be distributed on the Internet (nor elsewhere). Due to the intense piracy encountered with the previous versions, I decided to stop making my programs available "

Was this a payware program?

As a freeware author/developer/publisher myself, I guess I just don't see why an author should worry that much about how an add-on that was made with the intent of benefitting the flight sim community gets distributed.
