Panel projects

Postby FSTipster » Sat Feb 22, 2003 12:58 am

Just a short summary of what I've got in the pitpeline at the moment:

FS2002 Standard version of my new Baron Panel

FS2002 Standard version of my new Duke B60 panel

Virtual cockpit revisions for both panels (Standard & Pro)

New A-90 Orlenok Panel

I've decided to concentrate on authentic replica panels for the near future. I'm waiting on a reply to see if I can get a photograph of an Orlenok panel from the aircraft author but I'm not too optimistic about my chances for that. If I don't find one, I'll do a fictional version.

Tipster,

Do I have to learn to fly another airplane just to get your panel?

I don't even know what aa A-90 is!

Take a look ;)

It's a real plane btw - the Russian military use it as well as the civilian version. It' powered  by three engines driving two counter rotating props at the top front of the tail. It's the most fun I've ever had in a float plane lol.

Excellent start Andrew!! Btw - you need to download the update for the Baron when Pete get's it published - I changed the radio stack - new Autopilot and Audio panels in it. :)

Mark - I'm working on an extra special version of the TCAS gauge - it's going to be programmed with a range of 20,000 nautical miles and set off a siren at the first sight of any plane flown by you!  ;D ;D

I've been corresponding with a Russian gentleman by the name of Dmitri (he speaks English, I don't speak Russian ;D).

He's informed me that there's only one Orlenok left and that it's not currently in flying condition. I'm having a nightmare trying to track down a cockpit image of this. I've even e-mailed the Russian Navy. (That should see me persued by SU-27's for the rest of my tour :o ;D.)

If anyone has the remotest idea where this Orlenok is being kept, or any other information that might help me track down a source for a panel photograph, I'd be extremely grateful.

Just out of interest, I learnt a great deal about the Orlenok last night when trying to track this photo down. At one point, they had a version with 10 engines!!!! It weighed over 400 tons and still managed just under 300 knots at an altitude of 10 feet!

There were very few produced and they all faded out of service when the Russian economy took a nose dive a few years ago.

John I think its in one of the major military ports on the Caspian Sea.
Apparently Caz Dalton made a model of one and he got his data from www.airforce.ru so they might be worth a crack.
You could also try contacting Channel 4 television, as they did a 1 hour program on it. Pretty sure it was called "The Caspian Sea Monster". Aired a few years back, but fascinated me, which is why I remember it.

Mark ;)

Thanks Mark,

Dmitri is one of the webmasters from www.airforce.ru. He's said he'll post an enquiry in their forum for me.

I'll try and track some e-mail addresses down for Military ports in the Caspian and I'll e-mail Ch4 now.

Big help - thanks a lot.  :)

I've found the Orlenok!  ;D

It's at Kaspijsk naval base on the Caspian sea coast.
Now all I have to do is find an e-mail address and persuade them to take some photos.  ::)

Ah well - anything's worth a shot. :)

Latest progress with the Orlenok is that I've contacted the Russian Navy Archives with a view to either them supplying me with a photo of the panel or an e-mail address for Kaspijsk naval base.

Channel 4's autoresponder warns of a potential 6 week wait for a reply.

I'm going to wait this out because I really would like to try and do an authentic version if at all possible.
