Newbe question

Postby No_Bull » Fri Feb 21, 2003 3:48 am

I'd like to thank everyone for all the great addons being made for the game! ;D
My question:
Will planes made for Fs2000 pro work in Fs2002 standard? I want to add the Beech36tc but there seem to be more files than in a standard version plane.
Thanx for any advice

Again this comes down to the whole notion of MS offering two versions of FS.  The standard has no multi engine prop planes, and thus you will be missing gauges that designers use in add-ons.  Considering it's illegal to package these gauges, anyone who even moderately gets into the FS series and bought standard to start ends up having to buy pro as well.

I like the fact that MS sees the error of it's ways and Is only releasing one version of ACOF.  I have heard people grousing about the fact that theres not enough new about it to justify laying out $50-$70, but when I think of how MUCH I have spent on hardware and charts for FS usage, I'll proudly lay down that comparitively nominal fee.

Chops;

Just curious.... Why is it illegal to package the MS2KPro gauges?

Copywrites?

Just wondering.

Thanks.

Yup

You can make panels that USE the gauges just fine, but they technically are copyrighted files distributed ONLY with fs2002pro.  Thats how MS justifies the extra cost.  Being a big fan of the freeware addon world for the sim, I always support copyrights, which shows that we are respectful of intellectual property (even MS's).

No doubt.

I was just reading an article in the February issue of Computer Pilot Magazine, titled "The Birth of a Virtual Aircraft". The Developers/Designers/Artists spend ALLOT of time building addons for us.

The developers in the article spent 2 months just compiling the data for their GMAX Dash-7. And countless hours building and testing, building and testing, and fixing bugs. I think 2 years worth.

Nope. I'm with you. Abusing their creativeness is just plain wrong.

Take care.
