Postby alrot » Mon Oct 10, 2011 4:38 pm

what exactly does midi do? , I recently have a keyboard Yamaha ypt310 and I was wondering ,is this midi can connect a keyboard and the computer and perform another different sounds? having as and output the sound card of a PC?

Example: If I wish to play Babe from Styx using this sound of and old Roland which originally was play by Dennis D.Y in 1978 old Roland VR-760, is it possible I can "Emulate this same Sound using this Midi thing in my PC?
this guy used one of it ,the keyboard today is way Obsolete

MIDI transmits "Data" only, between keyboards, etc, (and Computers).

It does not transmit Audio sounds .wav. etc.

Two keyboards can transmit DATA between each other via "MIDI In" and "MIDI Out" plugs and sockets on each keyboard.

Using special computer Software, MIDI Data can be programmed/modified on a Computer to control an external Music Synthesizer, Workstation, Arranger keyboard via MIDI Plugs and Sockets.

Paul...Lots of Synthesizers, etc... :)...!

MIDI =  Musical Instrument Digital Interface

My involvement with keyboards does not include MIDI aspects, so I can't be of much help here, I'd rather spend my time playing rather than dealing with tech that I may never use, however, knowing MIDI basics is always a good idea if you have the time.

It's too complicated for simple, straight forward answers here, but Fozzer has a start on that.

I'd check out the wikipedia link Fozzer posted for some basics which may yield more information for you.

Alex... :)...1

Like Apex says....unless you just want to connect two keyboards together, and use one as the Master keyboard, and the other as the Slave (Sound Module)...
..I would forget all about MIDI, (it will only give you a headache anyway!), and just have fun playing your keyboard live!

...that's what I do!.. :)...!

Paul....You hum it...I'll play it... ;)...!
