We need to know...!

Postby Fozzer » Thu Nov 27, 2008 4:57 am

The most baffling question of the 21st. Century...

The popular Killers song; "Human"

Is the word used in the song; "Dancer" or "Denser"?.... ::)...!

I can understand a Human being "Denser"...(most of us are!).

But what is the connection between a "Human" and a "Dancer"..?

I think its time the World needs to know... :o...

...which is it...?

F....neither a Dancer....or particularly Dense...;)...Trust me!...!

Dancer or denser? That is a highly important question when the world as we know it is falling down around our ears. NOT! ::) :P

I know I'm out of touch but it's the first time I've heard this song. Not familiar with the Killers either. Are they some sort of philosophers whose every word has some deep significance or a bunch of musicians trying to make an honest living?

It's not a bad little ditty & the lyrics are much more intelligible than on your average pop record. Nothing to write home about. I don't see why they needed the subtitles on the vid in the first place. Nobody seems to worry too much about the unintelligible words on most of the rock classics. 8-)

PS. It's quite obviously dancer in an American accent. It has to rhyme with answer.

It doesn't have to make any sense. Not many words rhyme with answer. Can you think of any more? dancer, prancer, glancer, lancer, and cancer

For example; here's two different interpretations of a verse from a classic song. (A coconut to the first one to tell me which one.) If you can make any sense of either you're a better man than I am Gunga Din! :)

Always no sometimes think it's me, but you know I know when it's a dream.
I think, er No, I mean, er Yes but it's all wrong.
That is I think I disagree.
Always, no sometimes, think it's me, but you know I know and it's a dream.
I think I know I mean a 'Yes' but it's all wrong,
that is I think I disagree.

It is not just new bands, Neil Diamond singing about a chair has produced some very long thread on various blogs.

"I am," I said
To no one there
An no one heard at all
Not even the chair
"I am," I cried
"I am," said I
And I am lost, and I can't even say why
Leavin' me lonely still.

Never thought about that one before. It's obvious to me that the song is not about a chair but a very lonely person. Perhaps you need to have been in that situation to understand it. It's a good song & Neil Diamond wrote some very clever lyrics.

In the end it's only a pop song. I think some people take all this far too seriously. ;)

This is actually a very interesting subject. I can't think of any examples right now but there were a lot of popular hits where I never could figure out a phrase or a couple of words. These were often wrong in the sheet music as most groups could not read music & didn't write it down. This was often done later by professional musicians after the songs became hits & they wrote down what it sounded like to them. In the 60s groups the singers often used to make the words up as they went along. It didn't matter much what they sang as the PA equipment was so bad that nobody could understand the words anyway. I know several early Beatles covers of other artistes work where they sing the wrong words. A lot of groups copied the Beatles lyrics so they got them wrong too. ;)
