Neighbors and their %$#@! music

Postby beaky » Sat May 24, 2008 9:00 am

I seem to have lousy luck with this... I've lived below a crew of firemen who had a huge party every night they were off-duty, and used to fight over control of the stereo, leading to hours of hearing only the first 10 seconds of every song in their (very predictable) collection, at ear-shattering volume... complaints were met with a hearty "f*ck you!!" and death threats. Newark's Bravest... when there's a gang of them. ::)

Then there was the person below me at another apt. who HAD to hear the same damn David Bowie song at PRECISELY the same time every morning (before dawn, of course)... thank God I've finally forgotten what song it was, but if I hear it again, I think I'll have a seizure.

Or the Edith Piaf fan who spent every single night (every night!) listening to the same damn E.P. album over and over, at a volume so loud it kept me awake through 2-foot thick walls... I hate E.P. as it is; this was sheer torture.

To name a few. And of course, none of the above were responsive to even the most humble requests to please turn it down a bit, etc.

But in my present location, I seem to be having particularly bad luck... ever since my very considerate friend moved out of the space below me (never knew he was home except when he'd pick up his violin to practice a little; a very talented guy BTW), I've had to deal with a succession of 24-hr vid game junkies, aspiring (and utterly clueless) mash-up artists  who see no problem with working on a 2-second drop-in for 3 hrs straight in the wee hours on a weekday... and now somebody who seems to like every song I got tired of by 1983. He also seems unable to listen to a song in its entirety, which is not a good thing, even when you don't like the song...
And of course, it's all gotta be LOUD.... and it's nearly constant. He must be unemployed, because he's always home.

Why me??

I guess selling headphones must not be very profitable, because nobody seems to use them.

And why is it that the last two morons who've lived below me cannot speak without shouting? Right now I'm listening to this jackass talking on the phone, and he's yelling like it's a tin can on a string. Maybe he's deaf.

I will have to talk to him about this, but I know from experience that it will be a waste of time.

Anyway, there's my little rant... it's a beautiful day, so I should just get out of the house for  a while...

Sorry to hear that Rott :( I usually sleep like a brick but awhile back, I rented the top floor of a house in Essington and had to listen to my neighbor having relations with every guy in the neighborhood >:( No lie it was a different sucker every week. Those visuals still haunt me to this day! :P

It wouldn't of been too bad except she was about 350 lbs dry and always complaining about my dog making too much noise. She stopped by for her daily complaint over the dog and I asked her nicely, with a straight face, to please stop giving everybody in the neighborhood a ride while I try to sleep, and I began to explain that my dog's barking isnt something that can be controlled but your sex drive is ;D ;D

Well long story short, she never mentioned the dog again ;)

Buy some eggs...

Depending on your mood you can either eat them and use the boxes to sound proof your room, or equally egg the blighters and still sound proof your room.

A few months ago I could hear a house party going on, like maybe 200m away. I dont sleep easily as it is and they kept me up for hours... I was shout at them from my window but I think they got enough complaints before I could. Some people.

Well, I went out and took care of some errands, always nice walking around Manhattan on Memorial Day weekend because it's practically deserted.

Got home and started tinkering with the simpit, and he was at it again with the music (starting and stopping, so annoying)... so with a sigh I maxed out my PC speakers and threw Black Sabbath's  Masters of Reality into the CD drive.   ;D

Halfway thru the first song I forgot I was trying to annoy him... I;d forgotten how much I like that album. ;D

It could be my imagination, but when it was over, I think he'd actually turned his system down a little.  ;)

If necessary, I could break out the big guns: last time somebody down there got on my nerves, I was this close to laying some 100-watt powered speakers on the floor face-down- and firing up an audio test sweep (single pulses at octave intervals from 20Hz to 20KHz, ending with a blast of 1KHz)... before I left home for two weeks. That would drive anybody out of their mind.
It's like having nukes: you pray you'll never have to use them, but it's comforting to know they're there. ;D

Indeed, where I live we're OK (mostly elderly people so no worry of much noise occuring!), but I imagine it must be terrible for you Rotty!

I should imagine that would make them stop... ;D ;D

It would be an interesting experiment. ;D

But it may not come to that- so far, he's been quiet at night (unlike the others)... I really only get crazed when I'm trying to sleep and someone's cranking the tunes or whatever.

But it is a little annoying... this guy has to hear "Down By the River" by Neil Young and "September Rain" by G&R about four times a day for some reason. He really likes maudlin ballads...  ::)

I reckon I am lucky.

Although I live in the middle of a Housing Estate, my neighboUrs are exceedingly quiet...bless them!...and although I have a house full of Musical Instruments of all sorts, I make perfectly sure that absolutely NO ONE out side of my house can hear anything at all... :-*...!

Its so quiet here that sometimes that I think I have suddenly gone deaf!... :o...!

The only annoying noise we get is other folks endlessly annoying, barking bloody Dogs, during the night, and when their owners are out at work during the day!.... >:(...!

"Peace and quiet" is one of our most desirable requirements in life... ;)...!

Paul.... 8-)...!

..all I can hear outside at the moment, is the gentle pitter-patter of rain against my window... :)...Ultimate Joy!... :)...!
...and I reckon someone has shot all the bloody Dogs on the Estate!... [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]...!....

..... ;D....!

When I first lived in Glasgow I had 4 student nurses (all male) living below me. My flatmates and I got tired of calling security in the flats to call them up to ask them to turn the music down, day or night depending on their shifts.

We solved the problem by finding out when they were on night shift, just before their weekend off. We procured a full 300+ watt

We solved the problem by finding out when they were on night shift, just before their weekend off. We procured a full 300+ watt  professional sound system (friends in low places are useful)  in our flat, (luckily no one lived above us, or beside us on our floor) coupled to a 10 CD changer, set to random with music ranging from thrash metal to the loudest of classical. The volume was placed at 11  ;D and we went out to the pub for the day. We arrived back rather drunk at 11pm to be met by the security guard, who had been bombarded with calls from the student nurses below us about the music. He had found it rather amusing ..... He found it even more amusing when we told him that the sound system was staying in the flat for the rest of the weekend and to expect more calls tomorrow whilst we were in the pub.

After a weekend of no sleep, day or night and a note through the door intimating that messing with theatre technicians not only produces loud noise but has the potential to turn night into day, even through the thickest curtains, the nurses backed down and turned their rather lame system down.

Some 10 years ago when a new nieghbour moved in next door to me, he immediately built a massive, open Aviary at the bottom of this garden containing a quantity of African Grey Parrakeet's.

The constant screeching from dawn to dusk day after day, nonstop, was driving me mad for 5 years.

One day I recorded a whole days worth of all this noise on tape, installed a large Commercial Tannoy Loudspeaker and sound system at the bottom of my garden aimed in the direction of his house, and played the Parrot sounds on an endless loop, at a zillion decibels each day, day after day, after I went out....

In the end, I think some of the other neighbours in the area got so fed up with all this commotion, they must have contacted him (or the Local Council) to get rid of the bloody things....

....after 5 years of this Bedlam, he now keeps Coy Carp in lakes in his garden, aerated with massive pumps ....

The problem now, is whenever I hear the sound of running water when I am in my garden I find I am constantly bursting for a Pee... >:(...!

...time to record the sound of Niagara Falls, on and endless tape loop?.... ::).... ;)... ;D...!

Paul....I HATE noise... especially other people' bloody noise!.....>:(...!

Excellent.  :D

It's true... something about someone else's noise, or mess, or smell... God knows I'm not perfect, but I annoy myself enough with my bad habits; I don't want to deal with someone else's.
