Greatest musical discovery of 07

Postby Souichiro » Sat Dec 29, 2007 9:54 pm

Well the year is almost over so it is time to reflect on things I suppose...

I was wondering... What is your best "new musical discovery" of 07..... Doesn't have to be a new act. It could be that it has been a band that has been around for ages but that you've only started listening to this year...

My best new discovery of 07 is Paul Potts with Buckethead coming in close on 2nd place.

Why Potts? Because I think he is a great singer and he made me listen to Opera..... not usually my kind of thing..

Why Buckethead? because he is just a great guitar player!

So yours?

Paul Potts - a slightly above average tenor who only became famous because of the telly. There are scores of Paul Pott's scattered around the England's football and rugby grounds "treating" the (generally disinterested) crowds to rather average renditions of Nessun Dorma and O Sole Mio before kick off every weekend (just after the Abba tribute act). Sadly I expect Pott's career, after an album or two on the back of the TV success will be just that. Will he be an opera great who can sell albums and be a great opera performer on stage too? I doubt it. If he's lucky he'll sell as many albums as Russell Watson (who seemed to be guilty of introducing the awful renditions of the national anthem at our stadia).
