I have a great admiration for anyone who can successfully play a fretless stringed instrument; Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, etc... :)...!

How they manage to quickly locate the desired note on the fretless fingerboard is beyond me... :o...!

I tried to master my Violin a few years ago, but after a lifetime of playing fretted instruments, I finally gave up, and fitted frets to the instrument, without much success... :'(...!
(Some early music violin-type instruments are fitted with frets, and bowed "under-hand" ).

My MIDI keyboards/synthesizers contain some fine examples of acoustic Bass and electric Bass instruments which are quite easy to play, with velocity applied... :)...!

Cheers all..

....carry on strumming...;)...!

F....slapping my Bass... 8-)...!

it does take some getting use to, but i think its worth the little extra practice, i can already play without constantly looking at the fret board, so when i play fretless i realy dont find it that much harder :) but ofcourse i miss the odd note hear and their

Well... I play the keyboards, and pretty much play (or try to play) what I listen to...

That's Pink Floyd, Los Prisioneros, Soda Stereo, The Doors...

And a lot of peruvian reggae/jazz/ska bands... 8-)

To answer your question about how we fin dour notes.

It's called a good ear and habit. After you play the instrument long you will eventually find the notes naturally. ;)

a1...still having trouble finding notes in the 6th position.

I can play violin and guitar and have recently started learning to play the piano. I listen mostly to bands such as the Eagles, Allman Brothers etc . I prefer to perform similar genres of music.

i will be honest and say that i never had a natural nack for playing an instrument i only play because i enjoy it and just got good trough lots and lots of practice. my girlfriend on the other hand can play anything she picks up almost, from piano (she cant pick that up though :P) to the flute and even the bloomin bassoon! now that is a natural nack for playing instruments.

John...

I think what Ash is indicating is that he appreciates good music, like the Classics, which I love as well...;)...!

This is an excellent Thread to show each other what instruments we play, and what type of music we like play with them.

F...Humming along nicely... :)...!
