Trans Siberian Orchestra

Anyone here like them?
I had already enjoyed their CDs since release, but last night was the first time being able to see them in person.
And let me say this, it was probably the most powerful , emotional show I have ever seen!

The whole show was 3 hours non-stop, featuring some of the best musicians i have ever heard assembled on one stage.
And then there is the stage production lights, lasers, smoke and fire and even snow absolutely spectacular!

The group I saw I think was the West Touring Group (in East TN go figure) and is comprised of many new members fronted or should I say conducted by Al Pitrelli whom is a genius guitar player in his own right.

The musicianship was out of this world, and to be honest I am still in awe of the spectacle, hard to actually describe it when one asks me "How was it?"

So how many here have seen them? And what are your thoughts?

They're pretty cool. The only thing that brings them down is the whole Metallica malarky. :P

Well the fact Metallica plays with them, which gives that metal sound to the music. I'm not much of a fan of Metallica. ;)

Umm....
Metallica doesn't play with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, although TSO contains members of a better metal band than Metallica.  Savatage ;D

Or do you mean you don't like it that Metallica has played with a orchestra?

If so TSO has been doing it long before it even became a wet dream for Lars LMAO!! ;D

John Olivia is also one of the composers for TSO ;)

But Savatage has been way under rated. Skillful musicians, great songwriting and composition.

Wake of Magellan and Dead Winters Night are classic albums but yet so few have even heard them. I love music that tells a story and Savatage ranks with the best.

Well that makes up a majority of their CDs currently released :)
They do have a new one that should be released early next year, i had read a interview with Paul O'Neil where he says they already have written and recorded the material for their next 7 albums!
the next one they will release is called Night Castle (which they play some during their show) should have been released two years ago but Paul is a perfectionist lol.
I am eagerly awaiting this album!

I saw them in concert a couple of years ago, and it's really amazing how well done it was, and how good the music was.  I don't know what it is about electric guitars and an orchestra, but I just love it, like Metallica's S&M CD (there's no good way to write that if someone doesn't know what you're talking about :P ;D), still one of my favorite CD's out there. :)

Metallica performed with the San Francisco Symphony, not TSO (as far as I know).

As for TSO, I like the little that I have heard.

I had to sample it because of this thread.... They put a little bit of a twist on the old classical music..... Gives me another reason to buy a baritone (I played trumpet, Trombone and baritone in band) Baritone for the longest, 2 years.... so I love this kind of music  ;D

It is great stuff and I think you will enjoy it.
A good place to get it is at Amazon. You can buy their box set which contains all three Xmas story cds and their DVD. For less then buying separate and don't forget to get Beethoven's Last Night! Then you have the entire collection until the long awaited Night Castle release hopefully in Spring!
