Music injuries

Postby flyboy 28 » Tue May 31, 2005 4:57 pm

Anyone else ever get one?

Recently our "band" (me and a friend) have been practicing a reaaaaally fast song, requiring me to use the hi-hat a lot. So recently my wrist began hurting right by that little lump where the bone is. The doctor says I actually have a small fracture. Cool. :)

And, all you dirty minds out there, I know what you're thinking.. ::) :-/ :P

i once fell over when when we had a gig and smacked the headstock of my les paul into my cheek. result: broken cheek bone, but luckily the guitar was fine......so i can vouch for the build quality of gibson guitars.... :-[

The same could be said for my carpal tunnel syndrome of the right wrist. I actually have it very mildly in both wrists, but for some reason playing the bass really agrivates the right one. I tryed wearing a brace, and it helped for a while but eventually, nothing would help. By the end of a set my fingers would be numb, and the rest of my wrist/hand area in burning pain. I am right handed, and I think what causes this is picking the heavey bass strings, because I can play guitar for hours without a problem.

hmm...let me see....lots of "injuries" moving equipment...

Can  I count the time my cat knocked over my 12 string? I was on the other side of the room and dove to catch it, successfully I might add...only had a bit of rug-burn and a sore ankle...(Not sure how that happened..)

A fracture, eh? Surprised I never broke a finger playing drums. I'd often find blood all over the heads and not even realize I'd cut myself.
Sometimes it was a splintered stick, or I'd lose a stick and whack my hand on a rim or something before I realized it was gone.
Yes, I often played three sheets to the wind, and on tiny, hot stages, so that sort of thing was bound to happen. I used to wear those absorbent wristband things, but they'd be soaked thru by the end of the first song, usually.
Blood on the drums- now that's rock 'n' roll!!

Same here. When I'm through playing a song, look down and there's splatters of blood on my snare. Interesting it's in a straight line. Probably from my hand motion. Then I look at my index finger and theres a giant gash on it. Lol. Then I go upstairs and I say to my mom "Hey mom, check this out" :)
