There are thousands of people in the UK only who do this so it's not fair to let (only) 23 people pay for this! Everybody or nobody!

What's the exact law on file sharing in the UK?
Is it both uploading and downloading that's illegal, or is it just the uploading?

It's the same law that exists in the 'States.
Illegal to upload* and download through Peer to Peer network...for free...!

In the US, young school children are being prosecuted for downloading music files....everybody is at risk now...!

Your Service Provider can be forced to give your details to the prosecuting authority if they suspect you are "breaking the law"... :'(...!

Paul.

You automatically upload files to others while you use the P2P file sharing programs... :o...!

P.S. ...Tip: Watch out in your "Cookies" Folder... ;)... ;)... ;)...!

Ah, I see. In Canada it's only illegal to upload.
Downloading can be done without fear of prosecution.
All I know, besides what I've just said, is that this new Canadian law makes the RIAA very upset.

About the only place in Canada I can think of that doesn't get snow on a regular basis is south western BC.
And would you look at that, that's where I live. Sadly I love snow, so I hate the winters here.
But come spring, summer, and fall, it's truely one of the most beautiful places on earth.
So if you ever feel like moving to Canada, you should try out British Columbia first.

Uncomfortable Land is the area around my @$$.
It fell asleep about an hour ago, and won't wake up.

Ken lives on Vancouver Island, in Courtney I believe.
I've been to the island a couple of times and the it is truely fabulous.

And as for Alaska, I like to think of it as America's Canada.
It's full of snow and bears.  ;D

AFAIK its only illegal to upload here in the US.
The RIAA will mostly go after the uploaders as if there are no uploaders there are no downloaders on a P2p system anyways.

That's precisely how the RIAA gets you.  They're not going after people who download, it's those who actually SHARE their libraries. ;)
Great edit, Bob.

but i find this funny as here in the states many children are too underfunded to actually buy albums and hate commercial radio (like me) so we have to download. I know its stealing, but the record companys are more pissed, as they make about $17 off of every album sold. The artists get such a small cut that they really could care less. Infact i think i saw an interview on MTV at some point where the artist said that he didnt care if people downloaded his music, because he would rathar make it than go after the people who steal it. He also went on to say as long as people still attend his concerts he woulnt get into this whole P2P mess
