the trem block is anchored with springs on the underside of the body. you can adjust these to change the way the trem 'sits', ie level with body etc.  the temelo bar just screws in to the block, you can screw it in tight so there is no play, or leave it a little loose so you you can move it about a bit.  you wont have any probs with palm muting, you will naturally figure out the best position for your hand to be.  but i will say i had an esp once with a floyd rose lockin trem, and i hated it! took decades to change strings and tune, and was very uncomfortable to palm mute.  but then again, kirk hammet seems to manage just fine..... ???

The whole Floyd Rose thing is a big debate among guitarists.  Some love them, some hate them with a passion.  My girlfriend has a Squier strat with a Floyd Rose and she doesn't like it very much.  Its just a big hassle to change strings, and until recently it would go crazy out of tune if you used the whammy bar.  We fixed it by adding 2 more tension springs to the back of the tremelo, it stays in tune much better now.  The guitarist for my band has one strat with a Floyd Rose and he hardly ever uses it because of that.

I always loved my Floyd Rose, never had a problem with it. Changing the strings was a little more of a challenge than other setups but I would just change one at a time instead of pulling all 6 at once.

I guess I just dont like the idea of putting your strings on backwards :)  It is handy, however, if you break a string at the bridge because all you have to do is unwind it from the tuning peg a bit and reattach it good as new.

i tried a bc rich warlock the other day, it had the new version of the floyd rose on it, where you buy the strings already cut to length, all you do is wack em on and fine tune it. it seemed a hell of a lot quicker, and easier too.  :)
