On the whole remakes tend to be poor imitations of the originals, e.g. I Love Rock 'n Roll by Britney. Dire is too polite a word, but I can't use any of the others as I'm a moderator and Pete would tell me off (rightly so)!
There are however rare occassions when a remake is better than the original e.g. Guns 'n Roses cover of Live And Let Die was just AWESOME!
Alas the majority are just pants though :P But then they are made for a different audience from those of us that enjoyed the original. It seems the majority of people need to hear lots of 'Oh yeah' in Waterloo Sunsets etc etc............

Limp Bizkit's remake of Faith is awesome!  That song just suits being heavy. ;D

Limp Bizkit also have a remake of Behind Blue Eyes from The Who.  It's almost like the original, but more modern sounding. :)

I hate rap songs whoever does them...I can't stand some guy standing talking over a tape with the same repetitive beat on every song!  Eeeergghh!!!!!!! :-/

Also, Limp Bizkit released an album full of remixes and it sucked!  12 songs, of which 6 were remixes of My Way.  What a joke.  And only on song on the whole thing was remixed by DJ Lethal of Limp Bizkit. ::)

How can you guys sit here and nuke hip-hop and rap for taking one style of music and changing it to theirs?  >:(  I do not like rap or hip-hop or whatever, but come on!  Fully half of Zeppelins songs were re-workings of old blues classics!  What about Aerosmith or the Stones or AC/DC?

Remember the Animals doing 'House fo the Rising Sun?'  That song is not theirs.  Eric Burden did not write it.  I have a copy of Leadbelly singing it in the 20's.  'Train kept a Rollin' is a Blues staple from WAY back!  There are many others, but I'm to angry to think of them right now!

It's not that I like what I hear.  I could kill Maddona for what she did to American Pie.  But indoing so, she was doing no different than anyone who has come before her.  Music builds upon itself.  You take the best elements of one form and transcribe it into another.  To say that one song should be held invioate and never be touched again is contrary to everything Rock and Roll is based on!  Rock and its descendant forms of are based on expirimentation.

I don't mind it too much when a band does a descent job of covering a song, but I hate it when country/cowboy/hillbilly bands try to remake rock songs, that is the ultimate travesty.
I also don't like it when rap guys take good rock songs, sample/loop them and rap some crap over the top of it.

And the worst thing of all that I really hate is when an otherwise unheard of band gets popular by doing a remake of someone elses hit, to me this shows a serious lack of songwriting talent, if your own music isn't good enough, you shouldn't be cashing in and obtaining fame off of someone elses talent.
Of course when you really look at todays music industry, talent doesn't really account for much anymore.
Still no linked images allowed around here Paz! Naughty...
