Song remakes, Blegh

Postby Ivan » Fri Aug 15, 2003 3:00 pm

It seems the producers are running out of originality again, so much horrible remakes are coming out these days.

It started with the stupid Holly Valance act which acted as an example how to mess up a popular song bad and still be succesfull (Kiss Kiss).
The original got a top-10 rating in holland for a few weeks, some DJ's tried to sing it in dutch translation, revealing the utterly childish text which was fun.

And now they are trying to run down the complete south-european non-english hitlist in horrible remakes...

DANCE / TRANCE / HARDCORE 'REMIXES' OF GREAT ORIGONAL SONGS!!!!!!!!1111oneoneone
[glb] >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:([/glb]
Gah they piss me off so much! I was in woolies the other month looking for a DVD and they were playing a trance remix of Queens of the Stoneages' "no one knows", No guitar in it at all, which is the best part of the song! Then they had the nerve to play a hardcore remix of Queen.
Some anoying bastard has made a happy hardcore cover of Bohemian Rhapsody! Its a classic song and some guy rips it off.
All party people should have their arms cut off so they cant "ooh ooh put your hands in the air like you just dont care!" >:(

Any kind of remix is just plain pathetic.  It's an easy way to make cash. And somehow they are allowed to do it. I hear that alot of rappers are doing that lately. Most rap is just remixes and sound effects playing at random with somebody on the mic singing "siting at a bustop sucking a porkchop... whoopdy whoo nigga what!?"

haha.. I laugh everytime I think of how pathetic it is.  Some people spend their wholes lives learning how to play an instrument and other people just buy drum machines. The worse part about it though is that there are lamers that actually buy the 'music'.  That's because most people can't think for themselves.. "MTV says it's cool and popular.. so I want to be cool too!!"

aren't they in violation of copyright laws if they just re-use the music score and put another text under it, or does that fall under the law of the country the music was made originally?

I don't understand why nobody gets in trouble for doing it. The whole reason you copyright something is so nobody else can use it.

I could be wrong, but I think I read something somewhere a long time ago that said once you have had something copyrighted for a certain amount of time it becomes 'free' in a sense. Meaning you can do with it whatever you want. I'm not sure though. If that is the case it's kind of messed up.

I remember a few years ago when Errol Brown re-released "I believe in Miracles"  I was really annoyed with the bloke, Hot Chocolate had done it quite well already.  Until Sarah pointed out that it was his in the first place.... :(

no one can do the songs like the originals although it sometimes is good to hear a different spin of a song.

vannilla ice was notorius for stealing songs and not giving any credit or royalties. its not just words but also the music itself.

I work in Wollworths and get to enjoy these f****** covers for hours on end, "The logical song", "Take my breath away", "Flash", "Bohemian Rhapsody", "You were always on my mind", "We are the Champions", "We will rock you" etc..... And then I almost get fired for changing the CD to "Air Guitar 2" >:(

That are well-known songs both by the music and the lyrics.

They now try to sell the generic turkish disco music in terrible remakes in holland, as we dutchies discovered that you can have 2x more luxury and holiday time for the same price there as you can have in Spain and southern France.

The only marketing error they are making is that it either was a hit some years ago (Tarkan) or never became a hit at all (Sezen Aksu) because of the music style of the other songs (quite traditional turkish pop) of the same artist

Hah, I wouldn't let anybody pay me to use my music as theirs. It's because of that that rappers are concidered 'artists'.

Their are a few. I havn't heard them personally but I've heard people talk about them.  I couldn't say what songs they where exactly though.

But anyways musicians these days (especually american musicians) are barely musicians at all. Nu metal such as limp bizcuit and lincoln park play the bare minimum of what can be concidered music, rappers use drum machines, and pop music is just music producers who hire a music crew and a young girl so that they can make some albums and some cash real easy off of teeny boppers.

As far as metal goes Scandanavian countries is where the real music is being produced. They actually write 'music'. It's not just a few basic power chords and trying to sound 'kewl' like what nu metal bands do.

But for 80's metal I think the US had most of the best. I don't really listen to the stuff myself but any rapper, or pop star that is going to rip them off is really pathetic.

fair enough, about the pop crap:) and yes its def sad that alot of so called musicians are only there because they can be sold on their looks.
but i do have to say some rap stars do get my respect, although the market is staring to get a little flooded. a guy like eminem writes his own stuff and its good even great in the case of loose yourself, or DRE and snoop dogg, and then of coarse you have those no longer with us, tupac, and notorius B.I.G both were great artists. what ya gotta remember RAP isnt about the music itself its about the Lyrics, most of these guys have made names for themselves with battle raps and stuff like that.
