I noticed a version of this notice, pinned to a notice board, it made me lol... And I thought it was true.... I`m now fairly sure its just a gag, but still worth noticing I guess...

The story has been embellished over the years but I rather like this version from 1939.

The fog was very thick, and the Chief Officer of the tramp steamer was peering over the side of the bridge. Suddenly, to his intense surprise, he saw a man leaning over a rail only a few yards away.

"You confounded fool!" he roared. "Where the devil do you think your ship's going? Don't you know I've got the right of way?"

Out of the gloom came a sardonic voice:

"This ain't no blinkin' ship, guv'nor. This 'ere's a light'ouse!"

Newfoundland = eastern Canada

USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72)= Home port Naval Station Everett, Washington. Commissioned: 11 November 1989

September 1990 -Transferred to the Pacific Fleet

October 1993 - CVN-72 was on deployment off Somalia.

In 1995 CVN-72 was on deployment in the Persian Gulf. During an underway replenishment, the Lincoln was run into by USS Sacramento.

In 1998 CVN-72 was on deployment in the Persian Gulf.

Literally all deployments have been to the Persian Gulf or areas in the Pacific.

It doesn't appear as though CVN-72 has ever been near Newfoundland.... :-/.....
