and buried what remained of the other three.

From what I read many moons ago, Crockett carved his name with "kilt a bar at this tree." This was before his final appearance at the Alamo, where he had much more concern for what was coming out of Mexico than any future concerns about Germany. He very much would have prefered a Browning Assault Rifle, had it only existed, to Bessie, his Musket.
