and the bridge owners ...... and the canal owners ...... that's some serious damage!!!

It reminds me of the oil rig being towed down the clyde which hit the bottom of the Erskine bridge, because someone forgot to factor in the wooden blocks, on which it was resting on on the barges. The bridge was closed for 3 months and then restricted access for another 3. I don't know what damage was caused to the rig.

Frank and to the point.... ;)

Yea, I bet the reason that guy was running back and forth was he was trying to remember where he put the phone number for the Unemployment office...lmao  ;D

In olden times, wonder if he'd have been hung from that bridge as an example of what happens to dumbass's that run into the bridge with cargo ships. I still wonder WTF he was doing trying to sail a ship that large into such a small inlet? :-/

Must have been fun getting the ship back out.... ;)

Dougs got it. That bridge is a lifting bridge over a canal. The Bridge driver basically lowered the bridge in front of an oncoming ship that would probably need half a mile to come to a halt. You can bet your arse that the ship was in full astern when it hit the bridge and still it didn't even begin to slow down.

You can see the bridge coming down just before impact, and then just as the funnel is ripped off the bridge starts going up again.

T'is a bit late raising the bridge after the boat has hit it... ::)

That was pretty bad - that'll cost a bomb to repair! :o

The sign says Holland Road. I assume it's somewhere in the US. [smiley=tongue.gif]

Admittedly, I haven't seen all of the US, but I can't recall ever seeing or hearing of a bridge that opens like that. It could be in the US, I have no idea.... :-/
