When you see me ride by they can see the glean
And my shine on the deck and the TV screen

Another linguistic mystery -- why do we call them shotgun shells when they haven't been shot?

Of course with all that birdshot going off all over the place, there may not be many eggs left to guard. 8)

Because they're for a firearm called a shotgun. :P I suppose the greater mystery here is why is it called a shotgun?  Don't all guns shoot? ::)

But, until they shoot, they haven't shot. Are we implying that shotgun shells can only be used in a gun that's already shot? Are we properly confusing anyone yet? :P
Shotguns fire lead pellets aka lead shot.
Aside from the fact that the majority of guns have used lead projectiles, buckshot is quite some pellet -- not so different from that of a muzzle loader. :o

Back to Theis' original entry, this little fellow looks like he definitely turns chicken and runs.8)

You asked why they're called shotguns. The answer is that they're guns that fire lead shot. :P

Good to have you back - I think. ::) ;)

How can it be lead shot if it hasn't been "shot" in the first place or the gun shoot it when it's already shot? Some sort of a demensional time loop? :P 8)
