Which way does it revolve?

What are you laughing at?

Which way does it revolve?

Postby Loafing Smurf » Sun Oct 17, 2004 9:23 am

Option 1: Suggest that the Earth is at the center of the solar system, then the Sun and other planets revolve around it.

Option 2: It suggest that the Sun is at the center of the solar system and everything else revolve around it.

I'm thoughly convinced that the Earth is at the center of the solar system, so I voed for 1.

As we are in the outer reaches of the milkey way (our galaxy) I'm voting for neither. Both the sun and the earth revolve around a large chocolate bar that hangs in space.

Scientifically, neither. The Earth revolves around the sun which revolves around what is persumed to be a giant black hole at the centre of the galaxy.

I like the old theory that the Earth is supported on the back of a tortoise - standing on the back of a heffalump -sitting in the back of an Austin 7. Until anyone can prove it wrong I think I'll stick wth that. ;)

The model where the sun revolves around thear Earth explains retrograde motion. Retrograde motion is when a planet may move left to right in the night sky, but it move in the opposite direction on other nights.

This webiste should explain. http://www.astro.utoronto.ca/~zhu/ast21 ... ntric.html

P.S I corrected the poll, it its correct

Albert Einstein Knew that there are not structures of reference priviledge in our universe time, space and movements are relatives ,there is no absolute time, space, and of course movement, so i maybe did a wrong choice because from our point of view everything here on earth, the solar system, planets, and other stars are spining around us.....

That website is NOT claiming in any way that the sun is orbiting the Earth.  It is in fact showing a representation of what the sun and mars LOOK like they are doing from a geocentric (Earth as the center reference point) view.  If you notice, Mars has a very strange orbit, almost as if its moving around another planet.  That is the way it LOOKS from our point of view.

If I am explaining something you already understand, please forgive me.  It just seems like you are saying the Sun actully DOES orbit around the Earth.

Actually, the Sol (the name of the local star) and Earth both orbit around the common gravitational centre of their combined mass. This is further affected by the masses of all other bodies in the universe to some degree or another...obviously the other bodies in the Solar System have greater effects.

Both answers are wrong...but saying that Earth revolves around Sol is more correct. :)
