2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

I think I'll stay near my back garden, and take the occasional holiday 'bus trip to Brighton by the sea, with my bucket and spade... 8-)..!

Inter-stellar travel for humans?....What a load of old codswallop!... ;D... ;D...!

These Space Science Folks already live on a totally different planet to me!... ;D...!

He means that an actually habitable planet will be found.  The closest thing found so far has been in the "habitable zone".  By his definition - a measured size, orbit and incident stellar flux that is suitable for life - there are 5 habitable worlds in our solar system alone.

All the folks right here on the 'third rock' suffering day in and day out, and look at how many millions of dollars are being spent each year on looking for other planets to inhabit. (or destroy)

How bout fixing the problems RIGHT HERE first. :-?

You have to give it to Star Trek though, often times the "technology" in the show has become real.  I look at the last century of technological development, from Henry Ford and the Wright Brothers, to where we are now with computers, thousands of aircraft, space travel.  I wonder where the next 100 or 200 years will take us.

I often lie in bed, all nice and cosy, and remind myself that for millions of years, (a very long time!), all life on our tiny planet has successfully developed due totally to the prevailing conditions on our tiny planet; gravity, temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, electro-magnetic forces protecting us from dangerous radiation, as well as an abundance of the wet-stuff, etc, etc, ad infinitum....

All this within extremely fine limits, as we are beginning to find out, to our cost!

So the chance of us existing comfortably on another lump of rock, either in our own Solar System, or anywhere else "out there", is extremely remote...
...and as Doug says, until someone develops an; "Infinite Distance Transporter", and an extremely large stock of Mars Bars as sustenance for the journey and our new life on the new lump of rock in a distant Galaxy...

...even brain-deficient individuals on our tiny Planet wont be going anywhere else soon...

..trust me... ;)... ;)...!

Outer space is an unbelievably dangerous place for we delicate Earthlings, and our canine friends!... :o...!

Paul...Captain Kirk Captain Sensible... ;)... ;)...!

Think: Radiation!

Without mention of piss recicling: no other water source out there (water is heavy!) for our unquenchable human thirst. Not my idea for vacations! Mexican beaches are ideal for low & slow flights, using ultralights or Skydive. Provided with gigagallons of mexican beer, after landing.

I believe gravity is the first requirement for life. "Out There" is for remote controled machines.
