Fishing records?

Postby jetprop » Sun May 20, 2012 12:44 pm

Today my family and I went on the boat onto the atlantic, not an amazing haul in general but there where 3 BIG cod.
The biggest one my dad caught was 10-11 pounds!
THe second one is the one I caught wich was roughly 6-8 pounds and the third one was roughly the same.

But I also had something HUGE on the line, first there was a tiny cod on the line but then the rod bent downward and the wire started slipping on the old mill I used(good one),that has only happened once when it got stuck in a strong current, sadly enough, after about one minute it escaped. >:(

I started to wonder, what are the records of you guys?
my record would be I think around 8-10 pounds, not completely sure since I caught several big fish so far(mainly cod and 2 big pollack).

And what do you guys think it was?
We think it was either a big conger,a BIG ling or a HUGE cod.

Records...why that is nothing... :)

It was quite a few years ago when some of the kids were still home.

They would talk about this huge fish that could not be caught...could not be caught...humbug... >:(

Well we had several sailboats, a weekend cruiser and several 12 to 14 ft aluminum boats at our docks which were just off our grass runway.

My favourite old boat was home made of plywood and flat bottom.
A 9.9HP would move her along and I would use it all the time just to fish on the river or do a small tour to a neighbours up river.

Well one of those odd days I was home and the kids were still at school I decided to try my luck for a shore fish fry.

I slowly cruised 12 miles up river and shut off the engine.

Mine was a few years ago here at a near by lake. I caught 2 channel cat fish in the same week which blew me away. The first one was about 20 or so yards out on my friends doc. I was fishing about 5 foot deep with a bobber and a live minnow. I watched it take the current for awhile, then, without warning the bobber slowly went under. When I set the hook it felt like I caught large tree branch. I started to reel a bit more and thats when he decided to fight. Took me about 10-15 minutes to get em to the net. She was 32 pounds of beauty. 3 days later I came back to the same spot. I was sitting on the bottom rail of the doc,not much biting all day. I had the bobber set to about 3 foot as i was pretty much just dropping it in front of me and teasing the baby bass that had gathered. I went to pull the minnow out for another cast. Just as the bait was breaking the surface of the water,a monster channel cat came out from under the deck, rolled on the bait and was heading for the hills! I was so taken by surprise that it nearly pulled me off the deck. I through one of my legs backwards across the rail like a kung fu movie and by buddy imediately grabbed me so I could counter weight myself. A half hour later and a small crowd that gathered to boot, I landed her, all 46 and a half pounds. I have a picture somewhere around here. She was bowed over in the net and the pole that it was attached to was bent over to a point of breaking. Now i usually catch and release. There was a little girl (maybe 5-6 years old) and her father that were in a boat keeping their distance while i was fighting the big girl. They came up close to the dock after I landed her and got my photos. The man asked me if I was going to let her go, they hadn't caught anything all day and the little one looked sad. I put the fish in his boat and told her to go home and tell mama what you caught. I got the glory that day and a some warm fuzzies to boot.

As far as ocean going fish. In October of 03 I was 65 miles out from the Oregon Inlet at the Outer Banks. My buddies and I had chartered a boat and caught are limit on Yellowfin Tuna. The bonus fish was a citation 55 pound Wahoo. He was quite tasty 8-)
