Be on the lookout!

Postby Fly2e » Fri Sep 16, 2011 10:29 am

Watch Out! The chances of anybody getting hit by the UARS satellite are 1 in 3,200! NASA does not have a clue as to where it is going to land  :o

That was a goose, Paul
Foz is like most of us, going for the gold but winds up the one laying an egg along with a faceful of rumpled feathers.

..do you know what... :o....

With the enormous amount of "stuff" floating around in space now, at speeds of up to 27,000 mph, I don't see how it can be safe to attempt commercial space flight, or any other form of space flight, from now on!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_debris

A 1/4" bolt punching a hole in a space vehicle, head-on, at a closing speed of 54,000 mph will be enough to explode it!

Its a mystery to me how the various NASA, etc, modules, etc, get to their destination without colliding with it...not to mention all the rocks in the Asteroid Belt for those further trips into space!

...and I though my garden shed and spare bedroom was full of "stuff"!... :o...!

Paul...wearing my WW2 steel helmet for safety, during my Earthly shopping excursions... ;)...!

(I regularly take the 'Bus to Alpha Centauri to do my weekly shopping, but its getting dangerous now!).

QUICK!!! NASA, Do your [Censored][glow=yellow,2,300]         [/glow][/Censored] calculations :D. Than we can organize a "meeting" And then send all the worlds leaders there for a "Conference".
At least NASA will be doing something good with that satellite ::) :D :D [smiley=evil.gif] [smiley=evil.gif] [smiley=evil.gif]. Be sure to remind them to bring their Umbrellas though, It [smiley=engel017.gif] :P.
Most people think that flying a plane is dangerous, except pilots because they know how easy it is.
Arguing with a pilot is like wrestling with a pig in the mud, after a while you begin to think the pig likes it.

A world encircled by potential missile debris and you're taking spaced out shopping excursons?
Then, again, this may be old hat to you... in your youth there was much more explosive debris falling from the skies over England.
::)

Dare we envisage your coming attractions?

NASA just getting lazy or what? They could tell you where every bolt that ever fell off of MIR is orbiting, but they can't calculate where a 6 ton satellite will land?!

Oh and I almost forgot:
I Love living in this "remote" Africa Because If real life is anything like the Movies, The satellite will fall on Either:
USA, Mexico, Brazil, Britain or Russia. And if it does happen here it will go down in either Egypt or south Africa

There is a Google Earth plugin to let you see all of the satellites, as well as the position of Hubble. It's astronomical how much there really is up there  ;D

The odds are reasonable though. I will walk confidently to college  :P
