Ok. The kplc(Kenya (Not) Power & Lightning company) just announced it will start rationing power (again) because their expansion process was delayed and therefore they are punishing us for it. But here's the thing the CEO who is announcing shamelessly that they will ration in, ALL!!! Parts of the country, including the industrial the Airport (NBO/ICAO/HKJK/JKIA. Jomo Kenyatta international airport which is

Most people think that flying a plane is dangerous, except pilots because they know how easy it is.
Arguing with a pilot is like wrestling with a pig in the mud, after a while you begin to think the pig likes it.

Thanks for your optimism. But I am mad. And the Government wont let another company come without bribes. This is third world.

Take notice of the last sentence that speaks of stakeholders. There, I think, lies the problem.
When CEO's need to show quarterly profits to shareholders, maintaining transmission lines and working towards future power sources becomes a cost that won't make the CEO look good. We have a similar set up in Ontario where aging transmission lines will need replacing because no one would commit to the cost of general maintainence. Because of the size of this province, windmills aren't practical due to the long distances. Yet the powers that be want to go that route.

First off a HUGE thank you for looking that up I was soo annoyed when they announced that on news I didn't even bother looking on their website. And apparently they don't even have rationing On their announcement page ::).
Instead of me going through your post bit by bit, I will tell it in the short way.
KPLC Does not have competition.
no competition= knowing the market is yours
knowing the market is yours=Knowing that people don't have any other choice therefore getting comfortable.
And what you said was 110% right.
But when a new player comes in KPLC will dissolve faster than sugar in boiling tea.
Good night. Ren

Alas monopolies will always take advantage as they know you've got no other choice.
I can remember when BT were the only telecoms company in the UK. God but the system was dire!
I've never been to Kenya but I imagine that a lot of the infrastructure is legacy stuff from the days of Empire and accordingly the pencil pushing is still equally slow, inefficient and customer unfriendly?

Well. I am not going to lie to you. There is still plenty of British architecture that people kept after the colonials left but other than that It isn't so bad. (After you live the big city. Ugh :D) but once you leave the cities you find things like the windsor hotel, whistling thorns(I practically grew up there) Both of them were british people who had land and converted to restaurant/hotels. There are others such as the hiltonWhere we Kenyans built ourselves.
But sadly as everything, it was ruined by Daniel Arap Moi and Kamlesh Pattni Who took us into the dark ages. [smiley=evil.gif] [smiley=thumbdown.gif] And now we are recovering but the Members of parliament and powerful business people don't want us to cause they won't be able to get Themselves rich. But We are slowly and I do mean slowly moving on from the colonial age. And customer service is good. Did you know we can contact them when wes are using the computers these days

Careful there chap, we're getting into politics and that is a no-no on the forums along with religious discussions.
They always lead to someone getting a nose out of joint and peoples feelings getting hurt.
