I've been communicating with friends there today.  It is a mess for sure.  Prayers to everyone in Japan.

best,

Japanese news agency closed the info tap on the powerplant status...
the thing blew all covering of the reactor housing, so now only the skeleton and the core are still standing

The powers that be also increased the evacuation radius around one of the reactors. That alone is evidence that they are still unsure of the outcome.

my thoughts are with everyone caught up in this catastrophe.

the stuff i am seeing on news channels and other sources, from the areas wiped out/affected, is beyond belief. incomprehensible tbh

then to add to it all, theres the nuclear plants in meltown.

peace and love

Justin, I hope you are not near the beach. Just heard a news report on TV saying someone had been swept away by waves in California. Hope you, Greg (Pepe), family and friends are all ok.

We have the Pacifica Cliffs protecting us where I am at, but thanks for thinking of me  :)

Santa Cruz and Crecent City were the hardest hit here in California.  1 fatality, a photographer decided to stand on the edge of the surf to film the tsunami, and you can guess what happened next.   And several boats and piers were swamped.  Puddles compared to Japan though.

One thing that really impresses me about Japan, no looting!   :o  It's not in there nature, I read a really good article about it on CNN.

Second explosion reported  :(

NHK: Japan's nuclear safety and industrial agency report explosion at Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant's No. 3 reactor.

It was a news break on CNN, no details yet.

They stopped pumping in sea water to cool them because it was causing hydrogen gas and they are afraid of more explosions. Sounds like a catch 22 situation. They just can't catch a break, other than the assistance that is flowing in.

I never knew that major earthquakes caused islands to move or that the earth would shift axis and shorten the length of our day either. Scary stuff.

Japan has little in the way of natural resources for stuff like electric generation.  Fuels like narutal gas, oil, and coal are in short supply there.

They have numerous wind farms for electric generation and a lot of solar collectors are used on homes for domestic hot water.

Due to becoming curious about US facilities and searching for information, I found this page. If you would rather be an ostrich, don't look at it.

If you like having the hell scared out of you, by all means, click.

The last column tells a little bit about the problems we've had, but lists some links which may or may not elaborate.

No offense to you personally Patchz, but that site looks like it's nothing but anti-nuclear propaganda.

As far as Japan goes, they may never get those reactors under control again, but it will not turn into another Chernobyl. From what I've read, they have better containment than that.

No offense taken, but you might consider getting a more recent news update. It's much worse than they had been saying.

And approximately 20% of our reactors are the same type. Which means that earthquakes and/or floods where they are located could put us in the same boat. Their words, not mine.

There have been a number of experts, much more intelligent than I, saying we need to consider other methods of power.
