Did you know....

Postby Flying Trucker » Tue Jan 18, 2011 11:45 am

Goodly morning all... :)

I was just sitting here reminiscing about a couple of old aircraft.

When I got on line and saw at the Simviation Download Site there was a new T-33 or T Bird available it brought back some fond memories.... :)

Did you know that fixed to the center top of the T Birds nose was a Yaw String.

This told the aviator whether they were skidding in a turn or not.

[color=#000000]I think a pink garter snipped in half would also suffice Doug. ::)

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

I went to trade school with a guy who had previously been a weapons loader on F-15s and he said that they too had a yaw string. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that a lot of "high tech" aircraft use that old fashioned device. ;)

My question as a mechanic has always been: do you have to use special FAA approved mil-spec string or can it be just any string?  :P

Well my friend south of the border... :)

I can tell you it can not be just any old string...heavens to betsy... ;D

In the United States of America it has to be a red, white and blue yaw string... ;)      ;D

In Canada it has to be a bilingual yaw string.... ;D

There you go, now are you not glad you learned something this morning?
Pay's to be an old retired rocking chair flying college boy... ;D     ::)    LMAO

[color=#000000]A number of years ago, there was an oil well drilled in town and they hired off duty officers to work the gate and make rounds. The company man was Canadian. I loved listening to him talk and he was very friendly guy.

Never got to hear him speak in Canuck, though I wish I had. :)

Doubt I would have understood him though, as I was pretty much working 80 hour weeks then. ::)

;D     ;)    LMAO

That is a good one Larry... ;)

Kind of reminds me of this story:

Many years ago I was shopping for myself in an very old old furniture store.
Sears, Eatons and Hudson Bay did not have what I wanted.

I was looking for a bar stool but it had to be a certain style.
-high back
-swivels
-wood or metal seat
-metal legs
-fairly heavy so as not to tip over
-fairly higher than the average stool

I wanted this thing for down in the hangar (two if I could get them) to sit at my stand up work bench as I got tired standing up all the time playing with different instruments and what nots.

As I browsed the store I overheard a real estate sales person speaking with two of the stores employees.

These two employees probably never spent more than forty (40) hours in a school house in their combined lives... ;D

The  real estate sales person was explaining to these two that an American was going to be in to purchase some furniture for a property he had rented and he would be there in several days.

The two employees thanked the real estate person and when he left the store I overheard one employee ask the second one.

If he is an American how will we understand him if he doesn't speak english.
I couldn't believe these two mental midgets and it was all I could do from going over and banging their heads together... ;D     ::)

Well I walked over to these two and said I heard that they were getting a visit from an American from America.

They nodded and asked me if I could speak American.

I said no, that I had enough problems with our own language as it was but they should not have a problem as the American would probably just point to what he wanted.
Nodding in agreement they thought that was a good idea but they were not sure if they could identify an American.

I said that was easy, all Americans only wear red, white and blue clothing.  That was easy enough they thought.

As for the bar stool, they did not have one and thought I would have to go to a bar to get one... ::)       :-X

Only in Canada....eh....pity.... ;D
