Red means STOP!

I was involved in my first car accident as a driver today (and it was NOT my fault. )

I stopped at a red traffic light on my way home from school and some girl who wasn't paying attention to the road (she was texting ) rammed my rear bumper at about 35-40mph.

I forgot to take a pic of the girl's car, but this photo is pretty much identical:



My vehicle sustained absolutely no damage whatsoever:


Now I now why my parents insist on me only driving "The Brick". The thing is built like a tank! (And it drives like one too..)

Irony is my brother was in a 3 car accident the other day.  Only difference is his car was the one that took all the damage and the other 2 had no damage either.  He was texting aswell...

He suffered a confusion and whiplash.

Say what you will about those old Tahoe/Suburbans, but they can take a licking.  I was once rear-ended in mine, my trailer hitch made a nice impression on the front of their car, not a scratch to mine.

Ibuprofen is about the best cure for the aches and pains.

That's an all to common thing around here lately, construction going on everywhere and people just don't pay attention to stopped traffic.

I've seen this type of rear end accident before. I bet the trailer hitch took most of the impact. You might want to check up under to make sure it's not bent in or shoved up under. The damage may be worse than you think.

Ouch! I've been there Christian, except it was a woman in a pickup with a loaded camper shell doing 45. She never hit her brakes. Well she tried, but her purse had slid under the brake pedal so no effect. It put me under

the dash and put the fins on my '59 Chevy into the back seat. Since I was 19 and it was my only transportation, I signed a release too quickly, in order to get another car. The back problems showed up about three months

later. Even if you feel fine, you should get checked out, as it can take a while for spinal injuries to make themselves know. But I'm glad you seem to be ok, it could have been a lot worse. I hope it helps get people to quit

texting while driving.

My greatest fear is getting "rear-ended" whilst on my Motor-bike, and stopped at traffic lights, pedestrian crossings, etc....
If I note that someone is close behind me, and may not have noticed that the traffic ahead is at a standstill, I give "slow-down" hand signals, and I rapidly pump my brakes to flash my rear brake lights so as to bring attention to the driver of the hazard.
...and hope that they are paying attention!

Getting rear-ended whilst on a motor-bike mostly results in serious injury, or death.

Texting and driving, should be an instant ban, a HUGE fine and a slowly rotating pineapple inserted where the sun does not shine ...................At least a drunk driver is looking at the road

I never understand anyone who would want to text whilst driving. I never understand anyone who thinks it is alright. By getting in that vehicle you 'sign the papers' to say you'll pay attention and follow the law. It just goes to show where it can get you.

Though not intentional, and I'm sure not the nicest experience, full marks to you for teaching them a lesson. It's never good when someone who is playing to the rules gets caught out, but so long as they took the damage, that seems about fair.

Happened to me too. I was stopped in my '93 Ford Bronco, and a guy in a newer Toyota crossover rear ended me at about 40 mph. He couldn't drive away, while my tank just got a bent bumper.

They falsely believe they're multi-tasking.
Guess what, folks? Multi-tasking is a myth. You think you're doing more than one thing at a time, but one task is getting more attention than the other one.

Food for thought: Can you read and write a paragraph at the same time?

Next time you interview with someone, ask them that question if they ask you if you can multi-task. In addition, if you're left-handed like me, tell them that left-handers are better at multi-tasking than right-handers. Might score you some points.

Best cure for whiplash:  a good attorney.  No kidding, whiplash could last a long time in the form of aches and pains, esp in cold weather or air conditioning.  Be there, had that long ago when I got rear ended (she pushed car 4 into car 3, etc, I was #2 and still got hit hard, but no serious injuries for anyone), with pain that lasted months and months.  There's no excuse for rear-enders.  Eyes front, both hands on the wheel.
