I'm trying to figure out what sort of friends you have that are likely to get into serious trouble as soon as your back's turned. :-/

I have a daughter, son-in-law & 2 beautiful granddaughters who mean the world to me, more than life itself. They don't want me constantly checking up on them, any more than I want them checking up on me. If they or I go away we say cheerio, back in a week, fortnight, month or whatever. I know they will find a way to contact me if they really need me. Same goes for my friends. ;)

The unpredictable can always happen. They're safe people but if anything bad were to happen, I'd do what I could to get to them. They never look for trouble, but life happens. I rely on them and they rely on me.

Not sure what this has to do with mobile phones on planes. :P

Means of communication and reasons to use it. My original point was that it'd be no different to any ordinary flight so long as people mind their voice and don't talk too loudly. Then it got to this, then it went back again

Unfortunately most people shout down their phones, as you will know if you've ever travelled on a bus or train. That's the point of Fozzer's original topic & the article he linked to.

Can I kill you if I have to sit next to you?

Do it in international airspace. You might get away with it...

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

Don't tell my boss, but I would feel so sorry for those who don't want to hear the conversations of those who like to hear their own voices and INOP the system at every opportunity (if we had such a system). An aircraft is the only place left in the world where you are safe from mobile phone conversations. Why does a person on a mobile think that everyone around them wants to hear their conversation? It will be even more so in an aircraft with the environmental noises (think about the last time you flew, an aircraft is not a quiet place to be) Also have you listened to the average conversation,

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

You also get a lot of crying babies on planes, and people who do talk loudly anyway. Yeah it would be an increase in noise, but it's not as if the entire flight would be deafening. Noise cancelling earbuds, anyone?

'Spose it's a good thing I much prefer to send text messages than to ring people. It's far more quiet.
