If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

This is the start of the end of the world in 2012. Big volcanoes exploding, oil rigs spewing oil into the ocean all over the place, biggest hurricane season suppose to come up soon, floods in Tennesse?

We're all screwed.  :D

I haven't read all of the posts in here, but I get the feeling this hasn't been brought up yet.

When (and if) a hurricane happens in the gulf this year, it's gonna suck up a bunch of that oil if its still on the surface and spew it out over whatever land it comes into contact with.  Which means that a localized (sort of) issue could become a region-wide catastrophe very quickly.  If the gulf oil comes inland via a storm, we might need to evacuate as far inland as I am, and perhaps much farther!  Storm clouds from past hurricanes have been known to reach as far into Texas as Dallas.  And we would have to evacuate ALL of it.  The entire southwest is in relative danger.

It was sabotage, It was done so Obama would have an excuse to halt ALL drilling, where this all leads is the collapse of the American economy leading to a world wide crisis leading to a global socialistic  government.

Ladies and gentlemen,

The Mods have been pretty tolerant of comments that have been slipping in here in this discussion of an environmental disaster that involve a hint of religious, political, and "conspiratorial" aspects.

This thread seems to be heading into a deadly "flat spin" and is ready to crash if something is not done by THE PILOTS of the craft!

Please attempt to recover from the spin, if you can.

best,

I wasn't talking about evaporation; more like convection, wherein the oil (and other debris such as dirt) gets picked up by air currents along the surface of the water and lifted into the air.  It could very conceivably be sucked clear into the stratosphere and be carried many miles before coming back down as rain.

This happens with pollution on or near the ground in large cities, when storms move through the southwest.  The pollution is carried to rural areas, where it comes down on crops and farms in the form of acid rain.  It is also where the rumors of rains of frogs and other small sea creatures comes from.  Tadpoles (and other fish eggs/larvae) are sucked up in the funnels of tornadoes, water spouts, and hurricanes.  They are then carried inland to fall as small frogs on unsuspecting landlubbers.  If this is possible, isn't it reasonable to assume that such a storm could pick up droplets of crude oil from the surface of the sea and carry them in much the same way?
