If some of you follow Rockstar games a bit, you might know a bit about this article.

I agree with Rockstar, why do parents do this? Then go and complain about what the game has in it.

Good point indeed. The only possible excuse is if they buy the game for themselves online or have someone else buy it for them.

But the whole point about what a game contains is usually nonsense if you're the one buying it for your children. I also think it's ridiculous how any game can be banned in a country - As if it is up to them what the people play?

I make full use of the 'it's not illegal to play' rule and I have been playing 18s for many years and nothing bad came of it as my parents have that trust in me.

I bought Call of Duty Modern Warfare II a while back. In front of me was a boy of about 14 and his mother. The mother bought the game and as soon as she was past the check out, handed the game to her son. COD II is in Germany an 18 certificate.

Modern Warfare is an 18 in most places I think. It has often been the case that I would be passed the game after it was bought and just walk away with it. Hence why I kind of think the rating system is poor because it really doesn't stop much... But as proven in pretty much every game shop and every 'child goes bad after playing an 18' news report, you can't just give 'buy any rating' priviledges to anyone.

The reports about games being a bad influence are really quite bad. There is just something wrong with the kid, not the game. Even if they were stuck playing Barbie Horses or whatever they'd find a way to kill themselves or someone else out of stupidity. It's just the media coming up with an excuse for an article and parents trying to keep their kid happy instead of teaching them what's right (and what a smack feels like if they don't shut up when they hear 'no' as the final answer)

Epic future parent  ;D

No different than parents buying R rated movies for their kids, or bringing them into R rated movies at the theater.  I can't even tell you how many times I have had to sit next to an entire family while at R rated movies.
