Would you spend a penny

Not sure if this is real aviation or not, but anything Ryanair is sure to spark "general discussion", so I put it here.

It would seem that the paying to potty with Ryanair was not all O'Leary hot air this time.
Toilet charges to be phased in.

Would you still fly and would you pay. Does a Pound/Dollar/Euro in the greater picture of the whole flight price matter or would it be a point of principle. For instance, my mother in law says she would never fly with them if she has to pay to pee, but she is the tightest woman to walk the planet. Me, if that's what had to be done to releave myself, then so be it......however as I would never ever fly Ryanair anyway at this time the subject is a little mute for me.

If you've gotta go you've gotta go. If I was in that situation I would pay up rather than wet myself or worse. Fortunately I can usually last a 5 hour flight without having to use the toilet. Others are not so lucky.

I've never flown Ryanair so can't comment on the quality of their service. I can't see any objection to this providing they make it quite clear when you book the ticket. As for reducing the number of toilets I would have thought there was laid down minimum passenger/toilet ratio for public transport vehicles. I've never really thought about it before but if there isn't there should be.

The number of toilets are covered in the MEL (Minimum equipment list). The number required for dispatch in a 737-800 is.....................a big fat zero, however it is also down to the captains discretion as to the length of the flight and the number of toilets available. As a general rule, they will not accept an aircraft for a flight where the forward toilet is blocked.

I think the better way for Ryanair to go about this is find out how many potty stops someone needs on 'X' length flight and charge them that in the ticket.

I'm not saying I agree with charging for something like this, but I think it would come over better to the customer if they didn't have to pay to go.

Next they will try to charge extra for air to breathe.  They will fly your body where you are going for the basic fare,... but it you want to survive after they get above about FL120....you have to pay for the air. It is not mandatory of course.....passengers who do not want to pay do not have to.

The point is that despite all the criticism Ryanair is a very successful airline. Nobody is forced to use them. People don't seem to mind the inconvenience if they think they're getting a bargain.

You know, If I can get from point A to point B cheaper because of this. Then I really don't need some of those little things. I don't think I've ever used the toilet on a plane anyway so whatever, I just go right before and right after the flight. Sure, some people can't do that so I would say they need to find themselves a different airline.

I often research flight costs on Ryan air and they are quite cheap which is nice. However I'm from the US so I've never used them so I don't know what its like to actually be on the flight.

To be honest, in lots of public places you have to pay a small fee to use public toilets...

As for flying, if you behave like a grown up, don't get p*ssed or drink excessive amounts of liquid in the terminal before hand, or on board, then holding your bladder for a couple of hours is a capability the majority of people have.

Most people booking airline tickets are grown ups who should be able to look after themselves if they really don't want to pay... Like it or not, it's Mr O'Leary's train set*, and he can charge what he wants.

That sounds a little bit boring to me 

Gin and tonics, beers and wine with my meal was the order of the day on my London - Los Angeles flight. For shorter trips, perhaps, but long haul requires some sort of beverage to keep the customer in better spirits (or drinking them)  8-)

Unfortunately, although I seem to be -- very, very slowly -- healing, I'm no longer amongst the 'majority' and, when I have to go I may not have time to play with pockets, coins and meters. It wouldn't be the first time I've wet my seat -- I rather miss my infancy, anyway.

And therein lies the problem with the whole thing. You could say that certain groups be given dispensation (by age or medically), but of course the whole "privacy" issue rears its head.
