wtf  :o

This can't be caused simply by friction between a stopped wheel and the rail, can it??? Steel melts at ~1400

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

Is these pxs for real or are they just magnified "Hotwheels" versions?

I think you would be amazed at how much heat can be produced from metal to metal friction.  Aircraft brakes can reach temperatures over 400 degrees during a single emergency stop.  I imagine a train wheel spinning several miles an hour, spinning in place, could do the same.  You have a lot of downforce (weight of train), plus tons of torque (from the engine), all told it could create a lot of energy.

How can the train's wheels not still be in that position? If it moved, wouldn't it have derailed due to the deformation of the track at that spot? Maybe I'm just being ignorant, but I don't see how these pictures could be real.
