Isn't there something like a 5% error on speedometers anyway? They were probably going past that tiny 1.2mph difference anyway. Really though, is that much going to make any noticeable difference?

Of course not. 50 kph is a nominal figure. It's a case of our stupid politicians sticking rigidly to the rules as they always do when dealing with these EU regulations.

I use feet for altitude, but metric works best, for me, for everything else. It's probably the physics student in me, but without metres and kilograms the whole universe may fall apart

I use all three systems. Imperial for everyday use, SI for school, and Nautical (knots, NM) for flying.

Funny you should choose those words, H. I remember reading a few years ago about NASA losing a very expensive space probe because someone screwed up a metric to inches conversion.

I don't have the specifics on it right now, and I'm too tired to look it up. But I believe it was a probe destined for Mars orbit.

That is correct. CNN called them 'English' units of measurement. When I first heard, I thought the physics boffins were using metric and the engineers were using imperial. In reality, I think it was just one set of engineers using metric and the others using imperial.
