Good afternoon all... :)

I needed a good laugh... ;D

Well this is what I would do.

1st---check to see the aircraft is on autopilot
2nd---make sure we are at altitude
3rd---announce to everyone who I was and my intentions
4th---confirm the crew is medically being taken care of
5th---take a knife and slowly kill the two hijackers after

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

If you're on an airliner, you're probably headed into a major airport.  This means aircraft guidance systems, which ALL airliners can follow without ANY assistance from the pilot.  Any modern airliner can literally find the runway centerline and threshold with just a few button pushes from the person sitting in the seat, which ATC would be happy to give you when you announce exactly what kind of "flight time" you really have.  The only real danger would be of a catastrophic systems failure on the guidance equipment either on the aircraft or at the airport.

Best option (which ATC would probably order you to do) would be set yourself in a holding pattern outside the airport airspace and wait for the controllers to find you a suitable instructor to guide you through the programming of the autopilot.

Sorry, didn't mean to burst the fun bubble . . . ;)

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

...and I'm going to avoid being in an Aeroplane which is likely to crash because both pilots have died at the controls...in mid air... :o.... ;D....!

Then avoid flying on Continental  ::)
They've had two pilots die of natural causes in mid-flight. I want to know what the odds of that are.  :(

Sure, this scenario is very unlikely, if not impossible but it does make for fun conversation. ;)

There was the case of the guy having to land the King Air in Florida last year after the pilot died from a sudden cardiac event.  In that case, the guy, who owned the King Air, had a private pilot's license, but absolutely no experience in the King Air, and seemed to have quite some difficulty working the aircraft.

I don't have time to read everyone's responses but, as for the scenario, somebody had better sit down at the controls; what's the worst that happens -- the plane crashes, anyway?

That was kind of my attitude... The plane is going to be coming out of the sky, it's either going to be aimed at a runway when it does this, or land in what-ever-there-is-there. All you can do is the best you can do.

But how are you going to get into the cockpit.....for the 1000th time of asking.

The Mythbusters did this one too, in a full motion 737 simulator, and they both landed the plane with assistance from the ATC, and they have 0hrs experience and 0 sim hours, so I feel I'd have at least an equal or much better chance of success than they did, if I was in the real deal.
I'd feel better about me being up there as opposed to anyone else on the plane who didn't have any clue at all.

Anyone who's spent enough time with FS's 737s could easily work the autopilot into a landing with some help from the ground.  After it's down, the pro's can come on board and flick the rest of the switches and knobs.  ;D

I'd hate to love to be in that situation.
