1st Day of Spring

Good afternoon all...

It is a cold, damp rainy day here where we are in the colony.

Today is the 1st day of Spring and we sure do need the rain.

There was little snow this year and the many farmers who have dairy, beef, pigs etc are worried the water table is still low.  Nothing is harder on a farm business than having to buy water for livestock.

The old girl and I can see for ourselves the level of the river is down about two feet.  Now mind you they have not opened the dams north of us yet so that will make a little difference.

They say April showers bring May flowers so we are looking for some rain next month.   :)

First day of spring?! we have 8 inches of snow on the ground here in the show-me state. Two days ago, TWO DAYS ago I spent the afternoon outside in short sleeves with 60F temps, target shooting with my pellet pistol and enjoyed myself thoroughly. Now it looks like the north pole in my shooting range. Heck, I was thinking about getting the motorbike out of storage, but I guess that will have to wait now.

Alright enough griping from me. According to the forecast it should be back into the 50's and 60's again next week. I think this is really that last little bit of winter for us.

P.S. Doug, are we the only ones here that like reporting our weather?

That's a typically British trait although you chaps in the Colonies seem to have more extreme weather than us.

Good morning all...

Our clocks sprung ahead 1 hour last weekend.   :)
Clocks:   Spring ahead 1 hour....Fall back 1hour...Seasonal

Well we got snow flurries this morning but it is melting quickly and right now it is minus two C without the wind chill.

We just heard from one of our neighbours early this morning another person went into the river, no body found yet and no details other than that.
That will make four drownings this year already if they find a body.   :(

These drownings all happened about forty miles south of us, there are about three dams close together and the water is turbulent and cold.  I do not understand why these things happen as the area is well posted.

Well that is about all for now folks, the flying out of here is almost over unless I get one of the birds in the water, the strip is getting soft.

It makes sense that we would have more extreme weather. The US is much bigger....

They have their extremes, from the more mild British Columbia and Vancouver island to the cold provinces way up North.

I just did a quick search on Canadas square miles.. Within 5 websites I got 5 different numbers, ranging from 3.8 mil. to 4.5 mil.

Well, our eight inches of snow is now almost all melted away already. It was in the mid 40's (F) most of the day and should be near 50 tomorrow. The snow may be gone but the mud is back. It really is strange, I live at the top of a huge river bluff so you would think that the drainage here would be excellent, but I will have a muddy driveway with standing water for at least a week. Oh well, at least it will be warmer, I can deal with mud.
