[quote]One thing with the image scrolling. It also depends on how magnified you have the webpage itself. Most of the time, you can adjust this by holding the CTRL key while scrolling the mouse wheel. At first I had to scroll sideways to see the image as well, but then I just reduced my magnification by one notch and it's fine, and everything is still readable.

I like Machineman9's idea of utilizing the 600kb thread limit in the way of our choosing.

If you only want to have 1 shot at 600kb, then it would be just as fine as having 4 150kb shots.

I wonder if the type of web browser being used affects this topic in anyway?

.......However, by clicking on the image at default zoom I can see it full width at its correct resolution on my monitor. Not sure how many people know of this YaBB feature or would bother to use it even if they did......

That works for me, but in doing so I lose any text in the Thread that accompanies the Picture,....
...and it has to be performed for every Picture in the thread, to avoid horizontal scrolling to view them.
I reckon the Pixel "width problem" is caused by the increased left and right-hand margin width in the YaBB Forum page, which is now wider than previous YaBB Pages, reducing the width space available for the Picture in between the margins...;)...!

Anything over 800 pixels wide (800 X 600) on my 17 inch 1280 X 1024 (max) LCD Monitor involves sideways scrolling to view the whole Picture including its Text!

I hate it!... >:(... ;D... ;D...!

Paul....YaBB 2.4....and a pair of Roller Skates.... ;D...!

Internet speed this morning = 6.5 Mb/s down the copper phone Line..... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]...!

Why don't you get the satellite highspeed internet?

I've always heard that it was not reliable. Last time I checked it was pretty expensive too, but this topic has me curious about it again. I'm doing some research now and it looks like it might actually be affordable.

One flaw, of which there are a few, with my idea is when it comes around to competition time and 10 shots are stacked high in a single thread... 6mb versus 1.5mb. Quite a leap, but to those of us fortunate enough to have high speed internet, it isn't too much of an issue. Raised traffic levels would need to be taken into account also. So perhaps not the entire 600kb for a single shot, but a slight raise to 200kb or maybe 300kb would be nice.

Hey mods, don't let my slow connection stand in the way of progress. If things can be improved for those with high speed internet then I'm all for it, I'll just adapt and overcome. ;)

[hypothetical]What would actually be neat (but I don't know how possible), would be for the server to take any image that was uploaded and then to create 2 alternate versions of that image, Low and Medium. In your profile, you could then have an option of Connection Speed, with 3 options, Low, Med & High.

When you were viewing a page with images on, the forum could look at your profile, and show the relevant image based on your connection speed.[/hypothetical]

I'm not into server side coding, so I don't know how feasible that is, but it basically sounds like a bit of URL redirection through some PHP code.

Knowing me, I've probably just translated a very complex process into an unfeasibly simple concept. I usually do that with my game designs, and then fail miserably when I try and write the code.

Lee, Facebook and probably quite a few other sites use a similar concept. Often the file will be *_s.jpg or *_m.jpg so that there is a small image (usually a thumbnail) and a larger sized version for the proper image.

Something like that may take up a lot more server space, but it's not a bad idea.
