"Children in Need": Money Collections....

Hello Chums... ....

"Children in need"; collection for money, on the BBC Radio...

...now call me a suspicious old Sceptic if you will... ....

...... but I observe lots of Folks throwing sums of money ranging from a few hard-earned Pounds, to hundreds, or even thousands of Pounds, into a vague/obscure "Money Pit", located....somewhere .....for the personal delight of getting their names and location mentioned over the Radio?

Do they really think that it is going to help desperate little Rosebud, pictured in our Newspapers, in deepest darkest Africa, to get an operation to restore her failing eyesight, etc...etc...?

I get very suspicious of Folks who come up to me, rattle a Tin under my nose, and say "Give me Money!"

Now I'm aware that there are lots of kind Folks out there, eager to help in any way they can with monetary contributions...
...but there are an awful lot of highly gullible Folks out there, who are not even aware of what time of the day it is, and completely unaware of where their money is actually going, or likely to go!.... ...!

What do you reckon?

There are some  so-called "charities" out there that do give money to good causes.... it is just that the amount of what they gross in contributions and the amount given to the actual cause shows where their "loyalties lie".

So some "charities" are great "salary providers" for the people at the top.

Look at  the offical annual reports before you contribute.

I'm usually suspicious of these things myself. However, the people behind the BBC "Children in Need" appeal claim that every penny they collect goes to help disadvantaged children. Whether you believe it is another matter. http://www.bbc.co.uk/pudsey/aboutus/mission.shtml

...as I exit from my local Sainsbury's Superstore after suffering the crying, kicking, and screaming from the "Little Ones", as their Mums drag them painfully around the store...

...I am accosted by the Tin Rattlers, with a big smile on their faces, and the request...

..."A donation for Children in Need?"

Pointing inside the store......"I'll tell you what they need"....I inform them, in my most self-controlled voice... ...!

I think we do a bit of a cake sale and things like that towards Children in Need or other charities. Besides that, it isn't something I really invest much time or money into.

There are too many charities and I just about have enough lunch money per week to keep me going. I reserve most of my efforts for helping the RAFBF and taking part in rememberence services.

Children in Need is a bit of a publicity stunt. You get people ringing in saying how much money they will put in and have a bit of a competition between them and other overly rich people. In return they get a nice reward from the BBC or whoever such as track days, concerts, etc, for investing a lot of money. If they really cared about the cause, you'd hear them saying 'give this opportunity to those children who are in need', but they don't.
