I haven't taken part in the survey for two reasons.
a) I dislike this type of questionnaire as the Yes/No options are too restrictive.
b) Apart from CFS I have no experience with violent video games.

The questions are mostly yes or no for a simple reason...they are closed ended questions and only have one of two possible answers...making them easier for me to do my research paper.
I perused the questionare; to be fair, your own quote, "I agree with you 100% I believe that only certain people are affected, and that the media and parents are judging to harshly, for example most of the children who are committing crimes have been taught to do so by older siblings and possibly parents themselves....why blame the video games that dont actually have that big of an affect.  Anyone who is playing them surely know the difference between right and wrong in the real world as opposed to the game world," as well as the forthcoming, younger members quote, "...I would have liked to be able to explain my reasons more. An undecided or maybe tab would have also been nice," refutes the 'close-ended' character of some of the questions. I raised this complaint relative to multiple choice answers in the recent past, all too often the choices too restricted.
The problem often sources with the main opposing viewpoints being considered, anything else ignored, if even thought of, until certain ones answer the questions. They are then forced to answer according to which viewpoint they'd least reject, rather than what they'd really accept. Basically, true/false or yes/no questionares in the U.S. ignore the shades of gray just as the same types of questionares ignore the shades of grey in  the U.K.

like i said before though...its just for a research paper that I am very limited in how I am to do it, with the restrictions that my professor has put on them.  He preferred that we had closed ended questions rather then open ended, where you can put in all your thoughts, that way we can organize the data and draw a more straight forward conclusion.  I understand that the questionnaire is difficult with the Yes/No and all...but again like i said, its for a paper and it was to take alot of work off my hands...as I am taking alot of classes that are demanding at the moment...so I made it as easy for me to do as possible...I myself don't like Yes/No answers but its whats easiest for my paper.  Thus the shades of grey sadly get put aside for the black and white.  If they were not I would be writing a book with my results rather then a college paper.

I really enjoy getting all your responses though too...if you dont mind Id like to try and use what you have all said though in my paper. I would have put this in the questionnaire where you could voice your opinion but like i said my professor had his restrictions in what he wanted to see.

I can almost forecast the results of this survey. The young people who enjoy playing these violent games will obviously be in favour of them while silly old fogies like me will be against them. ;)

I worked for some years in the repair of various machines, including arcade games. Although the fighting part of Mortal Combat didn't quite so bother me, the game end screenshow did (most particularly when my character -- which I no longer had control of in the screenshow -- ripped off the woman's arm and her blood spurt out). Worse than unnecessary in a game no matter what age the player. Dragonslayer was very mild, comparatively (the biggest fight with that was keeping its dust-collecting CD player running).

I'll tell you right now that you will likely see a trend in these survey results indicating that people believe that video games are at the root of today's societal violence.
A survey like this NEEDS an option to explain our reasoning. As it stands, my answers to the survey's current iteration can lead to the belief that I am of the mindset that video games such as Grand Theft Auto are directly responsible for violence.

It needs to be understood that there are often a multitude of issues at hand with a perpetrator that are unrelated to video game exposure. I believe that certain familial hierarchies and with that, the attitudes of those raising an individual have a much, much greater influence on a person than any video game could have. Granted, the game could act like a triggering mechanism for someone to commit a crime, but gaming by itself is not conducive to crime perpetration, in my opinion.

To put it simply, it's all about a person's upbringing as a whole. Their social exposure (attitudes of peers and parents) seem to play the largest role.

I can almost forecast the results of this survey. The young people who enjoy playing these violent games will obviously be in favour of them while silly old fogies like me will be against them. ;)

I think I'd have to say that it is the gaming sort (no matter the age) who will be against all the violent people. You don't want people like that ruining your group. I can't stand it when there are whining children on games... I usually mute them where possible and sometimes kick them from my game. I do the same to people who are just out right idiots; cheaters; screamers or overly agressive people.

I think the people who like gaming for what it is will realise how people can become violent from games, but also see that it is very much a you and us type thing. I don't want to be a part of the group who goes around acting tough because I am playing online. I support the friendlier gaming types. The media, however, only sees the 'gamers'. No matter their age, gender or agenda, they will assume they are all the same... And violence sells better than getting along.

So you may be against the young sort who play games and who may occasionally turn angry from it, but I can assure you that a lot of the younger folk are also against it too. It gives a lot of people a bad stereotype.

Sean raises a good point which a lot of gamers will agree with. It is how the person is brought up which will determine how they act. I've seen many topics on other forums discussing violence in games, like this, and nearly all the people agree it is not the game that directly does it. No that isn't just us being protective of our games, it is the truth. We know it is the truth because some of us are perfectly fine. Bringing the child up on the wrong stuff and then letting them play video games and seeing them become violent is not going to be completely down to the games they were playing. Many believe games actually release anger. In Grand Theft Auto you can beat people up or whatever and it is fine to because they are not real. Isn't it better to shoot someone in a game than in real life? Of course the counter argument is that it might make them think that it is okay in real life. This has been tried once where someone killed people and blamed it on video games, but that is just a poor excuse. As said, they weren't brought up properly or they are just a bad example... Not everyone ends up right.
