Do you attend professional/collegiate sporting events?

Postby WebbPA » Thu Oct 15, 2009 12:29 am

I'm thinking of the big events like NFL, MLB, NHL, NCAA football and basketball, PGA Tour ...

I used to get free tickets to Doral (golf) but that deal died when it became a WGC event.  I could probably get free admission to the Honda Classic (also golf) but it's such a minor event, they move it around every year and it's a 40 mile drive so it's not worth attending for free.

If there were any event I would consider attending it would be a PGA Tour tournament - if I could get free tickets.  The parking is usually free if inconvenient.  You can go on Thursday or Friday when it isn't so crowded and you won't miss any of the weekend action.  Most of the players give free autographs if you're willing to wait.  And it's the only sport where you can get with within 5-10 feet of a player as he does his thing (and yes, I've been within 5-10 feet of Tiger Woods as he has hit 300 yard drives that move so fast you can barely track them).

What about the NFL?

I could buy a package deal for $150.  Includes bus trip and upper level end zone seats.  And $7 (16 oz) beer through the third quarter.  Or I could sit at home in air conditioned comfort where a 16 oz beer is much colder and costs about $1.

I can repeat the same scenario for MLB, NHL, NCAA.  Why bother traveling when I can watch at home or in a local sports bar?

So what do you guys do?

I do not attend NFL games because of how boring it would be with all the commercials.

Havent attended a Cal game but getting around to it.

I always go to the Avalanche vs Sharks game in San Jose every year to see the Avalanche.

I usually attend 2-3 MLB games a year when my mom gets tickets from her work.

Dont like the NBA

I also attended the Pebble Beach pro am this year with inside the robe follow player tickets my mom got and it rained out on Sunday so I couldnt watch.  >:( I was going to try to attend the Presidents cup but never got around to it.

Being active duty at a remote site (I'm not stationed on a major base and there are no major bases around the area) we get called to do Color Guards at a lot of major games.

a Raider game...

How did you like that? Gosh going to those games are just simply pathetic.

Ive been to one when I was smaller maybe like 8 or 9 years ago in all Rams and im not sure how I survived. The Raiders are a joke, their fans are a joke, and Oakland is a flat out joke.

I live near buffalo...

Our football players can't catch a cold...
Our hockey team can't score on an open net...
And our baseball team doesn't even show to the games...

...So no... ;D

Honestly, I very rarely carry a loaded side arm, but felt it was justifiable here, and found out later that it was...they will attack you if you even hint at not liking the Raiders...never again will I step foot in the Oracle Arena.  At least unarmed...

I try to get to a Yankees game at least once a year (couldn't this year... too expensive), a Giants game and usually I'll go to a few Rutgers games if I have a deathwish.
