Fresno. In the California Central Valley....>>>

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/8190120.stm

Quote:
"Late last year I decided to pursue the idea of making a meth documentary. After some research the production settled on Fresno as our location for the story. A town of half a million in California's central valley, Fresno has been on the slide for years. Joblessness, urban sprawl, social breakdown, it's got them all, along with - not coincidentally - one of the worst meth problems anywhere in America."
End quote.

On British TV Tonight....sounds interesting.

A bit of a surprise for me after the joys of Sim Flying in California. and spending a lot of time in the fertile Central Valley!

Maybe California is not the nice place that I have always imagined, over the years of Flight Simming the State?

This is no news to us Americans. California isn't all paradise. Crime, immigration, drug, social, traffic, smog, snake, insect, earthquake, wildfire, and not to mention political problems that plague the state. Its got some nice country to visit, but you couldn't pay me enough to voluntarily live there... ;D

I visited California a few years ago. Didn't care for it much. I prefer the East coast.

It's not fair to judge a place on a few days visit. Perhaps I didn't see the good bits.

I've been to California once. I thought it was a really nice place. It's got beautiful country-side and weather AND LA.

California has bigger problems than you might think. Nothing here is what it looks like in the movies. ;D

California, specifically Fresno, certainly holds no patent on the 'down home' manufacture of methamphetamines.

The most serious danger involved with the sale and manufacturer of meth is the tendency for it to go BOOM! when cooked incorrectly.  I have never witnessed one of these kitchen bombs (thankfully) but I hear that in some rural parts of the country, you can hear and see the explosion for several miles.

Cali isn't the only state in the union with these horrendous problems: we Texans have it fairly bad as well.  And I'm sure that most of the states in the union aren't immune, either.  Anywhere you have open country, small towns and bored young people, you will eventually get some homegrown meth labs.

some homegrown meth labs.
Perhaps government considers them entrepreneurs.

Having been to Fresno, I seem to remember that the best thing about it was the highways 99 and 152.....................they took me back to the I5 ;D ;D

I've wondered how many Californians are native to the state? Meaning, generations of family produce a native Californian. Even then, Arnold the Governator, is not native. If I were homeless and destitute I sure wouldn't hang out around here, too friggin cold, I would hop a frieght west for the free cocanuts, warm sand, soup kitchens, and something to meth me up!       :)

Watched it tonight as well...

A serious eye-opener!

A problem that is never going to get any better, generation after generation!

Fresno....What an awful place to live!

I must say that I have never been aware of such things as "Drugs" in the whole of my life...nor any of my Children...so it always comes as a surprise to see the disastrous effects on People.
Its a whole different World than I have been brought up in, and have brought my Children up in....thank goodness!
I suspect that it probably goes on in my neighbourhood, but I never seem to be aware of it, or affected by it

I sincerely hope that none of our Sim V Member go down that one-way route to Hell.

Paul.
