Saw a skit on Jackass a few years back. A character called the 'Ticket Fairy' or something like that who danced along putting money in the meter for people. Then the real parking enforcer came along and had a go at them.

I don't see why you can't. I'm guessing it is just because the charge for clamping is higher than another hour so if you don't allow people to top it up for you then they can take in more money. Stupid really.

[color=#000000]This is exactly the kind of heavy handed law enforcement and governement that I hate. I often find that the thing current members of the law enforcement community have learned the least, or completely failed to understand, is to enforce the law to the INTENT of the law, not the letter. Law enforcement officers are supposed to use discression, at least for misdemeanor crimes. But I suppose the evil one here is the government that created the law in the first place. Their intent is obvious, make more money from fines. This is just another example of our world going to hell in a hand basket. And for those of you unaware, I am a retired law enforcement officer. I learned to use discression.

Not sure what the problem is here. I don't know about Toronto but in my experience feeding a parking meter was always illegal in the UK. Who does the feeding is irrelevant.

I haven't seen a parking meter for years but the parking situation in my home town has become a joke. I travel by bus now which solves the problem. 8-)

Just to interject my theory, I think both parties were a bit anal in this example. What, however, if you are feeding the meter for your wife. If you don't your damned and your damned if you do?     :)

I don't understand.  Feeding the meter is illegal?  So you only get the amount of time you purchased in the beginning?  What if you only had one quarter and ran somewhere to make change, then fed the rest of the money in?  Would they fine you for that?

I REALLY don't think they are that concerned with getting other motorists to use the spot.  The government's main concern is ALWAYS the money involved.  And as long as the meter is being fed change, why do they give a darn who it comes from?

In common with Travis, I am a bit of a Rebel, in having an instinctive dislike for all Human Beings who intentionally place themselves in a position which, (they assume), gives them ultimate power and control, and general aggravation, over the rest of us, under the cloak of "The Rules", "The Law", "In My Opinion", etc, and their personal interpretation of it... >:(...!

I observe them intensely, and generally come to the conclusion that the majority of them are just annoying Arse-wipes who enjoy what they are doing!.... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]..!

Paul... ;)... ;D...!

..like Chuck Norris...I have the ability to destroy annoying, Power-crazy Arse-oles with the tips of my fingers!...

You're talking to someone from Worthing where the new parking charges are driving people away in droves. The council sold out to a private company that employs "parking enforcement officers" dressed in blue uniforms whose general demeanour & enthusiasm for the job has been compared with the Gestapo. Parking in Worthing was always a nightmare but it's now ten times worse. http://www.theargus.co.uk/news/4466993.Worthing_traders__anger_at_parking_wardens/

I could write several pages airing my views on the subject. However, my opinion of local parking policy in a seaside town in England is neither here nor there. My whole point is that if the law on street parking is the same in Canada as the UK the article in question is based on flawed logic. It doesn't matter who does it or for what reasons, feeding a parking meter is against the law. The parking warden is quite right to issue a parking ticket.
