Caps lock is useless.  I always just hold down the shift key. ;D
I use tilde on a custom keyboard layout to insert umlauts "

ALL of em...I have an Ideazon (steelseries now) Zboard keyboard with interchangeable key sets....as i discovered a little while back, the onboard keyset link chip
