Spam...

Postby Wing Nut » Fri May 15, 2009 2:11 am

With all that is going on, the question arises, why do companies even use spam messages in the first place?  Personally, I don't think I have EVER replied to a spam message and usually empty my spam folder without even looking in it.  Nobody wants it, so basically these companies are paying the spammers to give themselves a bad impression.  Look at all of the responses about Simfly and tell me their rep in the FS world is not ruined.  Even if they do stay in business, they'll probably end up changing names or something so people will start buying from them again.  :-/

All because they decided to use a method to get the word out that no one really wants.

People ignore spam, as well as ads on webpages now. When these were new I would assume that people used to use them fairly often if they found something they liked. However, now people just find it annoying and tend to ignore it no matter what the product. (I know I do) It doesn't help that you most commonly find ads for low budget companies trying to sell look alike products. I, for one, use Firefox and haven't seen a single ad on a webpage since I installed the "Adblock plus" add-on. Things like this may signal the internet ad may be on its way out as a viable way for businesses to advertise.

Spam is another matter, I always ignore it and ever since I opened a male enhancement e-mail on accident, I have NEVER opened a single spam message since.

The abuse of Ad's and Spam mail from these little companies looking for a quick buck has made that form of advertising a disadvantage for major companies as it just lowers their image, as it did with Simfly. I would think these companies need to do now is find a new way to advertise. One example is found at flash game sites where you have to watch an ad before you can play the game. Before this year that would never (or very rarely) happen.

Anyway, I really have no idea what point I'm trying to make so I'll let you take what you want from it

I use Firefox incorporating "Adblock", but it seems that it just removes the Adverts on the Internet Browser.

The Spam which invades the In-Box on my incoming E-Mail gets automatically dumped into my Spam Folder which is emptied regularly....(every three minutes!), and I never get to see it!

...rather like the Magazines/Newspaper, etc, which you purchase in the Shop, and dump all the loose advert "stuff" into the adjoining Rubbish Bin marked; "Useless stuff"... :)...!

I think E-Mail Spam is generated by groups of Folk with nothing else useful to do in their sad, lonely lives...;)...!

...and it wont go away......ever......trust me!...;)...

I don't get much e-mail spam these days. In fact I don't get much e-mail at all. Makes me wonder exactly what my ISP is blocking thinking that it's spam. Only recently some of my friends have had problems sending me attachments.

Here's an e-mail I received last month. I kept it as an example to show friends that are not very computer savvy what to look out for. [quote]Date: 29/04/2009
