I have mixed feelings about it. Its kind of weird for boy scouts to be running it.. but to give kids exposure to guns in a controlled atmosphere is defiantly a positive to me.

Its cool that they get to see what its like, as they get to experience how the Police and Border patrol deal with problems. Perhaps they will develop a better respect for law enforcement and see them as more then just a "big brother" that's just out there to catch you doing something illegal. Then another plus is (all though I didn't see it specified in the article) that they learn gun control and respect guns as weapons. Maybe some don't agree, but I think everyone should learn to use a gun at some point in their life, the earlier the better, so they understand that guns really aren't that bad. It's the people that use them for crime that are the problem.

However I wonder if through this program they may glorify what they are learning and not give it as much thought as they should. What I mean is this; I play airsoft all the time and had some of the most fun in a close quarter combat challenge, my team trained for it in a National Guard building and it was a great experience. I don't know how this program works as far as how seriously the organizers run it but shooting someone with a 6mm BB is VERY different the shooting them with a 5.56mm NATO round. I just wonder if they may end up thinking what they just did was better then it really is.

...I find the Photographs REALLY scary!... ...!

We have problems enough, with our some of our local Youngsters....arm them with authorised Guns, teach them how to use them, they will enjoy it, and all Hell will break loose!.... ...!

Are those not airsoft type rifles, hence the orange on the rifles.


With Air Cadets you must be over 14, I believe, to shoot anything. I got thrown onto the big rifle at age 15 - AFAIK you have to be a marksman with the other rifle to fire this one, but I got given it as the first thing I shot... I am yet to fire the .22 and have only fired the 5.56 and 7.62 rounds. What a blast!

That is just sick and if they EVER try to get my kid into something like that, they'll be out of it in about ten seconds...
