It was an evident typo when the account was being typed out. I just found it humorous and couldn't remember the name of the movie it reminded me of (actually, both of the ones mentioned in that I was relating the time transportation in The Final Countdown to The Philadelphia Experiment.
On old typewriters a lower case l was used for the 1; many typos have the 1 substituting the l.

I received a letter from the Naval History and Heritage Command Center today, and it turns out the Navy no longer has the log. So that's the end of that...

What did they do... turn it over to the lumber company? Which ship's log?
