New advertising method??

Postby expat » Sun Jan 25, 2009 12:49 am

Not sure if this is Software of General, but it is very, very annoying. Is this a new tactic to get you to click on an advert and is there anyway of dissabling it???
I have seen this a few times this week. I open up a web page and there is a pulsing tone......beep, beep, beep all the time the page is open. I asume it is one of the many adverts on the page. Example here. I could just turn of my sound, but why should I >:(

2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

I often notice that a pop-up, advert window, appears over the top of the page I am trying to read, covering the text, etc, underneath it...and no little "X" in the corner to remove it!
Some of them even manage to by-pass my Firefox "Pop-up Blocker"... >:(...!

...bleedin' annoying!...

That link seems OK to me. Perhaps they changed the ad.

I recently had the same problem with my ISP home page. It was an ad for an online gambling site & almost drove me bonkers. The only way to stop it was by turning the sound off. I'm sure I wasn't the only one to find it annoying as they removed it the following day.

I suspect that's part of the web page & not a conventional pop-up ad. I've seen these on some news sites & agree they're bleedin' annoying. There's usually a way of removing them but this is not immediately obvious. If I can't figure it out within a couple of seconds I stop visiting the site. Simple! 8-)

If you use Firefox, use the add-on "Ad-block Plus", here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865

I didn't see a single ad on that page you posted expat, and I haven't seen any ads anywhere recently. :)

I sometimes get an advert that is just like a windows explorer popup that tells me I am "unprotected" and when you click "X" or "No" to the "Download now?" question, it just keeps popping up. So I have to use task manager to shut IE down, which really ticks me off. >:(
