Police say the 22-year-old ex-convict told them he'd been robbed and shot in the past.

Now let's get this right. A convicted felon scared of being robbed. Seems a tad ironic don't you think? ::)

Au contraire Paul...

We had about 10-12 "groups" knocking on our door last night, the better dressed up they were, the better the treat they got.

We had a couple of 14/15 year olds dressed in bedsheets.. poor effort, they got a pack of sweets for their efforts. On the other hand, we had 6-7 year olds, accompanied by parents, who had really made an effort.. they had the choice of our "goody bowl" and one, who wasn't greedy at all, only took ONE lolly... so I gave him a couple of quid and congratulated him, and his parent, on the effort he'd made.

Fortunately they don't bother coming around here. The American tradition of trick or treating was completely unknown in this country before the 1980s. I always blamed its introduction on the film ET. When my daughter was young (in the 1970s) we had Hallowe'en parties at home with a few invited friends & their children. It seems to me that what seemed such a quaint & innocent tradition has now got completely out of hand on both sides of the Pond.

Why would someone knock ono the door if they were going to rob you:

"Can I help you?"

"Yeah can you leave for 10 miniuters to I can take all the junk outa' your house?"

At the opposite end, I hate Halloween. I leave the outside light off, draw the curtain across the door, leave to dog by it and ignore the door bell.

Halloween. Isn't it great? The one day out of the year when it's socially acceptable to walk around in a costume and mask. If said person wanted to go around killing people in their homes, nobody would think anything out of the ordinary.

There were a couple murders here in Washington yesterday, so if the grim reaper wanted to come and rob me, atleast I was ready ;D

Paul must have forgotten to electrify his front gate & mine the path to his front door this year.

I've heard that these hooligans are not interested in sweets. They want cash. The "or else" threat is what worries me. Some of these young thugs wouldn't hesitate to chuck a brick through your window or perhaps worse, stuff fireworks through your letter box. Although it's now illegal for under-18s to purchase or even carry fireworks in the street they're easy enough to obtain at this time of year. I enjoy a good firework display as much as anyone else but think that fireworks should be completely banned except for at organised displays.

LOL.... ;D...!

...that is always the "fun part" for me.... ;D...!

November the 5th's Fireworks generally starts on January the first, and then continues for the rest of the bleedin' Year... >:(...!

I thought there was a new rule prohibiting Firework Displays except on November the 5th, official Firework Displays, or private displays unless prearranged with the Local Authority before hand?.... :o...!

I think that rule has gone largely unnoticed around here!... :'(...!

I feel sorry for the family that have lost a son just because some complete & utter tool decides to shoot rounds through a door before even looking to see who was there.

You really do have to have the IQ of an Amoeba not to realise that:

A) It's halloween, people may knock on your door.

&

B) It could've been anybody stood there, much more likely to be your own friends or family rather than the world's politest burglars.

I appreciate that in America you have 'the right to bear arms', but do you not have some sort of basic IQ test that has to be passed before being allowed guns?
