You got that right with all the starving people in the world. Now, how many people would that feed?

Now wouldn't that be a real legacy to leave mankind. To totally eradicate starvation and hunger or poverty and despair. That legacy could live on for generations. This tower might last a couple of decades at best if some earthquake, war or misguide aircraft doesn't take it down.

It's not exactly in an area where humanity toward fellow man is greatly observed.

Agreed.  In my two tours over there, I would say got the general impression that life is cheap in that region.

IMHO, I believe it is partially based in the rough, rugged life of a culture living in desert conditions. But also partially related to the domintant religion, one that believes if a man dies, thats what God wants... thats is what is meant to be. People of that faith also have a limited view of the future. Whatever happens happens, because God wants it that way. That does not mean they do not plan or look to the future, but I think they believe thier own ability to effect the future is limited.

Strangely enough, as an outsider, there are many things about the faith itself (not all of those that CLAIM to follow it) that I admire.

I resist going into this further, for fear of violating forum rules on discussion of religion.

Or perhaps, for film fans...

"My dear Mademoiselle, perhaps you have already observed that in Casablanca, human life is cheap." -Major Strasse, of the THIRD Reich.

Close to that part of the world. Same ideas.

2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

The workers' families will eat better until it's done, and once it's finished many more jobs will be created. Does a lot more good than shoveling money into refugee camps... I don't like it any more than anybody else, but the sad irony of poverty is that you can't eradicate it with money.

Imagine the steel workers at that height, and in areas of the world where schedules over ride safety. The highest exterior work I've done is around 90 feet and that scared the beejeevers outa me at least for the first few hours every morning.  :P

" I've been as high as 190 ft when I worked at a grain elevator, but most work was done around around 90 ft. It's a strange feeling when you look up at the clouds while the tower is swaying."
The only way I could get to 190 feet is if some thing put more fear under me. Like an angry Grizzly bear!!   ;D ;D

Just part of the rapid development in the East.  The US experienced a similar boom with close competition for the tallest in the world.  I must admitt though, I'm not so proud to have contributed $40 today to the project by fueling up today

;DFirstly, I'd like all you God believers to explain to me why God allows all these people to starve, especially all the millions of children with bloated bellies to suffer for all these centuries. Secondly, the leftist Liberals would never permit the suffering and poverty to be eradicated. They need these people as voters. How can you be so ignorant?

Hey, sorry but religion and politics is really something we try not to discuss in the forums or the threads get locked ;)
